Windy Winter Sunday hunt

G'day :ausflag:

It's been cold and wet in my neck of woods Downunder...that doesn't stop us hardy Aussies:).
My detecting friend with his Etrac picked me up 6.45am for a Sunday morning hunt.
I wasn't sure if we would be able to detect and keep dry as it was a very rainy and windy night with rain coming sideways and hitting the bedroom windows.
The rain did hold off just for us and although it was cold, we had a good hunt for 4 hours.

I found a very heavy 925 silver ring, 2 old pre decimal coins (1951 and 1957) and $75.60. ...using program 2, sens.20, tracking.
Out hunting him ( far more experienced than me ) with the Etrac again - thats about the 3rd time in row now.
This just a theory : I think the Xterra performs better on shallower modern coin targets than maybe the Etrac because it is a deep hunting beast.
Love my Xterra to death ( I won't ever sell it ) but I am seriously considering buying an Etrac to use for really deep coins and relics amongst iron.
Happy swinging

Congrats on the large amount of finds. My reasoning for your finding more than your buddy with the E-TRAC is because the sweep speed of the X-TERRA allows you to cover a lot more ground in a given period of time. For extreme depth in undisturbed soil and for definitive target identification/separation, the E-TRAC is hard to beat. But for the majority of the places I hunt, finding coins at depths of 8 inches or less, the X-TERRA will cover much more ground, increasing my odds of finding more targets, than my E-TRAC. Digger,

Thanks for your reply ...I hear you....
Thats the funny thing about us two when we hunt.
We have totally different styles.
I swing slowish and carefully grid areas and he walks around everywhere covering 3-4 times more area than me.( possibly too fast?)
The Etrac's total was around the $65 mark so he still did very well.

That's a great day out Terra! We got snow at Orange today and it got to a max of 8 Degrees C here. Definitely cool. Got some of your rain while I was detecting yesterday. It was windy and when that rain hit, it bucketed down. We don't see that very often in these parts.
I've heard a number of comments about what you are saying about the E-trac and the shallow stuff. Not sure why that would happen, but the X-terra with the 5x10 on board sure is hard to beat on the shallow stuff. I tried an experiment the other day with the DD attached. Put a $2 coin both directly above and below a 20c piece. I heard both coins both times!!!!!! Albeit the numbers were off a bit, but you can't argue with that; and the nicest tones of any of the light detectors.

Don't discount the Xterra on depth!!! Get the 10.5 DD 7.5 kHz coil and you will get the depth. I had a Safari and the Xterra with the 10.5 WILL go as deep as the "Big" Minelab machines...............MO
