How many of you hang it up in the winter and wait until Spring to go detecting again? I would go in a blizzard if I get the green light from my wife. In fact when I first started detecting I did just that. I was so addicted to the hobby back then and I still am just as addicted to it. So back to the blizzard and detecting. There I was swinging my detector and walking across a park. I would get a good signal, kick away the snow and proceed to pry whatever it was out of the ground with a screwdriver. I had weird looks from people in cars passing by but I did not care it was so much fun. You can tell you are being watched without looking up. You can hear the car slow to a crawl as they drive by. 17 years later into the hobby and I still don’t have enough sense to stay out of the cold, the snow and other bad weather. I get the green light and I am ready to go out the door regardless of the weather. What can I say I love to get out and dig in the dirt. 🤪

I looked up your symptoms in the ICD-10 and you have something called, MDD ( Metal Detecting Disease) and there is no cure 🤭🤣😂

I think winter is the best time to go and bad weather doesn't bother me at all. I love the cold weather and the colder the better. No bugs and no people! I'm in Pennsylvania and my detecting season usually runs from about October through April. As long as the snow isnt more than 2-3" deep and the ground isn't frozen solid, I'll be out there digging away. I'll go occasionally over the summer but its usually too hot for me.

Pretty sure I have MDD too, and I think it chronic!

I love detecting lake erie beaches in the winter.
Especially after big storms.
They really throw a lot of everything up on shore.
Found my best ever ring in the ice.
And yes. I use a big pick.
I've been out there in 30-40mph winds with misty rain in the thirties.
Nice full coverage rain suit over wollies. Really cold and windy I'll put sweats over the woolies.
Yup.
Everyone thinks I'm nuts too. 😆

When I was younger the cold never stopped me...now that I'm older it shuts me down like a snake. Ha! Being raised in SE Texas and lived in Las Vegas and Phoenix I'm more use to heat versus cold weather as long as I can hunt in shade.

maybe no more detecting for me for a long long time. I live in Helenes path.
Justbeinme,
I am sorry to hear that you were in Helene’s path. I live in Virginia and we had communities in Virginia and Tennessee that were affected by Helene. What a devastating and tragic storm. Many peoe lost everything and many are still trying to recover. What state are you in?

I detect all winter here in Ct a lot on the beaches very low moon tides during the winter months I never stop.
Mark

Fall and Winter are my seasons for relic hunting here in Virginia. Although if the opportunity arises in the warmer months, I'll go digging .
