Winter Storage

For those of you that have to store your detector for the winter or not going to use them for a while, and also pin pointers, flashlight's or anything that takes a battery . Please remove the batteries so they don't leak and rune your units.

That's an excellent reminder Doug. Not sure what winter is really like. It is 62 degrees tonight and supposed to be in the 70's tomorrow here in South Texas. Guess we really don't have an off season. Lucky for us...LOL!

It doesn't matter where you live old and week batteries can leak and rune any unit. Especially when you get busy with other projects in life and things just set around waiting for you use them again and wham-o your unit is ruined or badly damaged.

And do not forget to fully charge any rechargeable batteries before putting them up for storage.
This is really important for Ni-Cad type battery as they can develop internal shorts when they fully run down and then will not charge.
The Lithium-ion types dont have this problem and should hold their charge very well in storage.

Thanks for the reminder Doug! I'm sitting here playing with the computer while it's 9 degrees outside and I'm quite sure I won't be detecting for a while. My Ext. 70 is sitting in the closet doing nothing. As soon as I'm done typing this, I'm gonna get those batteries out. That's why I like coming to this site even when I'm not out MDing. Again, thanks.
Joel

Doug...thanks for the reminder. You are right we get other things on our minds and forget to do some of the little things. Not only will I remove the batteries from my equipment I will also, today, change the batteries in my smoke detectors, thanks to your message. This was on my to-do list and some how slipped (senior moment) what mind I have left. Happy Hollidays. TomB
