Wire guage

Eric, You mentioned in one of your recent posts that you use 10/.1 multi-strand pvc wire. What guage is this multi-strand wire you use for PI coils? Magnet wire is beginning to get expensive to build all these experimental coils. BTW, how do you measure the guage of a multi-strand magnet wire? I opened a commerical coil to see how VLF concentric was made and found some of this type of wire inside. Thank You for answering my past question on coil formula. Thanks

Hi Rick,
10/0.1mm stranded wire is equivalent to 10/38AWG. I have never used magnet wire and I don't see that it has any advantage for normal PI coils. Either 10/0.1 or 7/0.2 (7/32AWG) pvc insulated stranded is what I use for coils up to 15in and 16/0.2 or even 24/0.2 for very large coils to keep the resistance down.
Eric.

Thanks for your answer Eric. This will help me alot. Rick S
