With split-screens posted, will dealers rectify this before any further sales ??

It seems to be a very small number of the machines that are doing it so how would a dealer rectify it? They would have to open up every machine, assemble it, and go out and hunt with it until it screwed up. Which would likely never happen. So I don't see how that is something practical to do.

Also, I've been out with mine several times and have had no problems with it except ONCE, when it was cold out and I turned on my SE and it DID have a split screen thing going on it. I turned it off and back on and it's never done it again. Interestingly, a friend was using my Fisher CZ-70 and she showed me an LCD anomoly on that, where some numbers were showing up where they weren't supposed to be and the rest of the screen was blank...I had her shut it off and turn it back on and it too never did it again. And it's never done it before. And it wasn't THAT COLD either...maybe like upper 30's to 40-ish. I'm not sure if maybe cold weather might not have something to do with the problem on some of the SE's. Not really worried about it though...it's a minor thing and they can fix it. Stuff happens. I would assume that whatever the problem is, it will be fixed on any future machines coming out of the factory but probably not at the dealer level. Unless there were a recall, but I really don't think the problem is at that level. Not sure what the total number of people that have had the problem is, but I think it's low.

That's an interesting point Mike:thumbup:, maybe turning it off and restarting the SE, will solve some other SE's too! After all, isn't it a basic computer, that may need an occasional reboot? :throw:, Happy Hunting Grounds,

Savage.

Well, from the sound of it, it DOES sound like there has been the need to replace some of the LCD screens on the SE's, so it's probably not THE fix. But I think there are far more of them that are working correctly than not. And it may be that mine may yet act up again, but it's also easy to understand how cold weather could potentially cause some problems with an LCD screen that may or may not turn out to be a problem requiring replacement.

Yea, Mike the weather very well could be the problem, or part of it.
However, from the looks of the LCD screen on the SE, it has a green display vice the standard grey screen on the EX-II. Is it possible that the change in technology also creates the problem? The Ex-II was well into production when I became involved in detectors, (a little over a year). Did the EX-II have issues when it first hit the market? Happy Hunting Grounds,

Savage.

Not unreasonable to ask at all, but the point is that unless you want the dealer to do a lot more than a "cursory check", (like go out and put it through the paces in the field) I would suspect that it probably wouldn't do it right out of the box. I haven't heard of any doing it right out of the box and I'm pretty sure that Minelab tests the machine just before they go IN the box. But all that said, if the dealer was ME, I would at least be taking it out, putting a battery in it, and checking it to ensure I sent it to the buyer in proper working order.

the problem is not unique except that for me, it did not happen with the EX2.

It seems that for the author of this post, it did:

For me it did occur with one of my EX XS's:

Not to worry too much.

It seems to be quite rare.

It's much like the news reportings of a shark attack. When they happen, as rare as they are, we ALL get told about it so much more than some of the real issues that count.
