Working Back Into "Land" Mode...

...after an outstanding summer of digging gold and diamond rings at the beach with the Excal, it's time to get back into the land hunting thing with the Explorer II.

I didn't have much time today so I went to a well-pounded spot that I've hit before and opted for a slow grid walk over an area that has produced a few good finds before. This is a BIG school grounds that goes back to the 40's and before that it was farmland. I've found Colonial stuff on up there, including a lot of silver coins, Indians, etc. Today's hunt only produced one thing of interest...unless you count the live 30/30 round or the 1969 Canadian dime. But the 1000 Reis Brazilian coin from 1922 was unexpected.

Here's how it read...

Sucker was deep too...and it's like a 1/4" thick...

Cleaned up a little, front side...she's pretty rough

Hi Mike!

Nice to see you doing land...I've been enjoying your posts on the Water forum for most of the summer. Nice find there on that Brazilian coin. Sounds like you've got yourself a pretty good spot there!

Interesting! That's my favorite combination of numbers. Down here (Australia) that means your over a $2 coin! 6-26 or 7-26 means a $1 or $2, but if it's leaning more towards 6-26, it's almost always a $2.
Cool!

Mike,
Boy, did you ever have a super water hunting season. Always nice to see your posts and pics. The land silver is there for the taking with the best silver finder out there that you're using...maybe even some gold...you just never know at those old sites...HH

I'm jonesing for some old silver too...some BIG silver. It's been a long time since I dug a Walker half or a nice Barber half or Seated quarter. Hopefully soon to come. HH!

Usually a signal like that around here equates to a Civil War bullet of perhaps a button. As for your $2 coins, it sure would be nice if we had those here. Our biggest coin is $.25, so it takes a WHOLE lot of them to add up. If I were digging $2 coins I think I might like clad a whole lot better!

Thanks. It WAS a much better spot the first 50 times I hit it. It's tough these days. The first time I hunted it was about 5 or 6 years ago with my first machine...a Garrett GTAx-750. I got like 8 Mercs, among other stuff. That was repeated a number of times with a number of machines over the years. Spots like that are getting harder and harder to find. :(
