ws4 connection problems

been using my 9" coil mainly with no problems at all. went out the other day decided to use the 11" since I would be hunting for civil war relics in a field. My ws4 headphones would not work. they would turn on but not pick up the coil. i got into the menu of the ws4 puck and tried switching coils nothing. I select coil 1 it does nothing, select coil 2 it does nothing. select coil 3 and the 03 flashes continuous but still does not connect to the coil. I came home after hunting without using headphones and tried them again and they immediately connected with my 9" coil. everything worked fine till i got this 9" coil and added the serial # to my control box. I figured I would up date to 4.1 and this would correct the problem and it didn't. i even reverted back to 3.2 and still nothing. connects only with the 9". any one have any ideas? am I missing or forgetting something?

I have had this problem with the WS4s. When you chose the 11" coil on your controller, was your headphones on? I have done the very same thing before, but was able to put the coil in the headphone puck out in the field. Sometimes it took several tries. I have thought if I did my update right. I just had the 11" LF coil on the charger and should I have had the 2 sets of headphones on charge also. I have been using my MI-6 and turn it off and no headphones. Until a time or two of turning off and back on. This is after the 4.1 update.....

Okay I have it working now. I'm not sure what I did wrong but i was told re flash the control and it should fix the problem. well it didn't so after trying everything I could think of even going as far as un installing the 9" and my pin pointer it still didn't work. So i brought my 9" coil back into the house. I re entered the serial # for the 9" coil. I then turned on the control box yes the 9" was working. I turned on the headphones and yes they were still working on the 9". so I left everything on and switched from the 9" to the 11" using the control box with both coils sitting near and the headphones worked with the 11" now. I'm still not sure what I did wrong but it works now. The only thing I can figure is when you use the control box it takes priority over the headphone controls. I changed to the 11" coil without the headphones being on then I turned them on so maybe the ws4 got lost somehow and was working as a stand alone WS4 lite system. Thanks for the input guys.

I must have switched coils with the headphones off. I have to remember this. I didn't have my 9" coil along. I'm not sure but I think i needed to have the 9" coil to fix this. I didn't try to switch coils around out in the field cause the control box was already set to 11" coil and the 9" was at home.

Just a note: if you are using the RC and the headphones together and you can access the headphone menu, this means you have a different coil selected.
If your headphone menu displays only VOL, then the same coil is selected.

Good tip Gary!!

I pay attention to this when I am testing, using Deus while having multiple coils nearby.

A person can't just think because they hear noise they are linked to the coil they actually want.
You may indeed be linked to another coil.

Gary if this happens again by accident, Must I have both coils in order to fix this. Say I used my 9" coil and switched to the 11" without having the headphones on. Can i just turn the headphones on and use the control box to switch back to 9" coil which is 35 miles away then select 11" coil again ? or must the control box actually have to connect with the 9" coil. I hope i didn't confuse you cause I almost confused my self. lol

If all your Deus components are loaded with same version,,,you can take just coil, rod and headphone module to detect. Worse case scenario is you might have to load coil ser# into headphone module. Not a big deal.
If you are using headphone remote only,,,and you infact have your coil loaded in module, but don't know which coil # position the coil you are using actually is.
You have 2 choices, trial and error selecting each coil position in module.
Or can select a coil position, then start process like you are going to manually load coil ser# into module, you will at this point start to see parts of the actual coil, serial number loaded into that slot. You'll have to scroll through though to see the whole ser#.

Ok, I never messed with the puck much cause I always use my control box in conjunction with the WS4. I do know that when I was in the field and only had my 11" coil my ws4 headphones wouldn't even pick up my 11" when I used the puck alone to try to recognize the 11" coil. so what your saying is I should use my headphones like a lite setup and manually enter the coil serial numbers. then this wont happen to me again in the field. Is this correct Squirrel?

Yeah,
You can always manually load coil into headphone puck.
If no pairing after properly doing,,,I can't offer any help.

I did btw get a long distance last nite, gent was experiencing pairing with a used 11" coil he bought.
I walked him thru on tele, my suspicion was his coil was not same version (4.0) as the rest of his Deus components. Turns out this was the case. His coil was V3.2

I had off today due to snow so I decided to play around. I got the WS4 puck out and my two coils. I fired up the puck and it connected to the 11" right away i went right to the coil selection and chose coil 2 tried to enter the serial # but it was already their. I must have come across a glitch somehow. anyways I know how to manually enter the coil serial number into the puck now so I'm good. Thanks for the help.

One thing not mentioned here and am not sure if this fits your issue but if you are manually entering the coil into the WS4 or even the WS5 headphones for that matter, make sure they are entered in the same order as your remote.
So if you have 9" coil as #1 on the remote make sure you also enter it as coil #1 on the headphones same with coil # 2 and so forth.
I have 2 complete units with remotes as well as a WS4 puck, 2 WS5 headphones, 4 coils and 2 MI6 pin pointers. .It can get a bit confusing but if done in the correct order everything will turn out fine..
