Thanks

I caution you about trying to use the CS 6 or CS 7 for nugget hunting without any modifications. I think you try a stock detector you will find the ground signal is normally way too strong in most dry environments such as those desert or mountain areas commonly hunted in AZ, and as such, would make hunting quite difficult. It might work well in some wet environments such as hunting in streams or active wet areas, but even some of them can be difficult to hunt also.

You would have to modify the CS 6 or the CS 7 to be able to use a DD coil to make it more effective as a nugget hunting detector. Then you would have to increase the sensitivity some also. The best way to do this is to reduce the delay.

As for modifications, I would recommend the CS 6 over the CS 7 simply because it can be modified much easier. The CS 7 is microprocessor controlled and that would be more difficult to change.

I know because I have tried a CS6 and had to modify it a lot before it would work well.

The Goldquest SS V.2 has the basic features needed and does work much better. It isn't perfect either, but is about as good as you are going to get on a PI that doesn't have ground balancing capabilities.

Thanks Reg
I just talked to Mr. Bill and he told me exactly the same, the c6 not the7.
Is the goldguest an older unit, it,s hard to keep track.

Thanks again

The Goldquest SS V.2 (GQ) is Eric Foster's latest design of a low power PI. The evolution to this latest design was done by using the previous models in gold producing areas and then modifying the design to try to reduce the limitations without radically increasing the costs. The ultimate result was a lower cost unit that could be used for nugget hunting as well as its primary function of beach hunting.

The shorter delay of the GQ provides greater sensitivity to all sizes of gold, and allows the detection of smaller gold than previous models. The use of a DD coil plus the double filter built in reduces the effects of the ground significantly. It doesn't cure the ground signal problem completely, but does reduce it enough so most areas can be hunted much easier.

The light weight of the unit also makes if a very easy unit to use for extended periods of time.
