X-1 probe on SE tips?

BlackX

New member
I'm having a hard time adjusting to the X-1 probe on the SE vs the S-1 probe on the Sov I've been using. Anyone have any tips for it? Thx.

They are a little different as you are seeing. On the S-1 probe you can hunt in disc, switch to all metal pinpoint to pinpoint the best you can and turn on the probe while in all metal to locate your target. Now on the X-1 for the Explorer you will hunt in the disc, switch to pinpoint to pinpoint it and you will have to switch back to disc before you turn the Probe on as I am sure you are seeing. Use the X1 in disc mode until you locate the target and then if you want to get a tighter pinpoint and want to switch the SE to pinpoint make sure you pull the probe out of the hole and away for anything metal before you switch to pinpoint or the probe may go wild. Then go into the hole and you know the general area where the target is so it will be easy to locate. Now before you dig you will have to take the SE out of pinpoint or the threshold can go wild. Not that hard to use, but a little different than the Sovereign.

Another thing that I have learned is that the X-1 will get really crazy if you run manual sensitivity. I started having trouble with my first X-1 and Ralph told me to put it in semi- auto. Well it was a whole different ball game then. Another thing is that when you put the probe into your hole it will null out if it is rusted iron of any kind. Be sure that you go all the way around the inside of the hole cause it will still pick up coins even with the rust there. Good Hunting. Jim P. Rockford, Illinois.

Thanks for the thoughts, Rick. Definitely different than the Sov. Hope it works better for me as I get used to the Explorer in general. At this point I feel like hipmounting my Sov w/ just the S-1 plugged into it to use for pinpointing. That worked a whole lot better for me, particularly in holes w/ more than one object in them. Does the X-1 work as well for you as the S-1 after you got used to it?

I'll try the manual sens, Jim, and see how that works. Thanks. (Though it will be one more thing to toggle on and of--hope I get used to it over time.)
