X-1 Probe placement?

I have always mounted my X-1 Probes to the battery compartment like Ralph has in the instructions...although I see some of you mount it to the middle rod...how does the middle rod placement affect the balance/weight and what do you do with the wire(above or below the grip)...any opinions would be appreciated...TIA...HH

I set the rig on the ground when I dig...
Makes the probe very easy to reach

It doesn't get in the way...
My Rig is it the truck ..But I think you just mount it with zip ties...
You can move it if you don't like it..Right

I use a plastice cup holder hook secured to the upper rod (just below the X1 switch box) secured with a coupld of tie wraps. It is very easy to get off and back on after each use.
This does a great job of keeping the cable from flopping around while hunting.

I mounted mine originally (6 years ago) on the battery compartment and quickly found out that since I switch swinging arms constantly while detecting that the probe was in the way. So I did move it to the upper shaft. Yes the weight of the Explorer did get more front end heavy, but, on top of the upper shaft it did not interfere with swinging and that was more important.

I always have to make sure I put the probe back into the holder with the wire positioned correctly or else too much dangles down, but all is worth it to have the probe.

Hi Guys;
My probe and cord is always a mess can any of you guys post some pics of how you mount your probes on the rod instead of the battery compartment. Would appreciate seeing how it is done.
