After reading all I could find on the X-Terra detectors I have a new 305 on the way. I have never owned a Minelab before and wanted to try one as a back up detector.
The 305 looks to be a nice machine, just not all the bells and whistles the 505 and 705 has and the price is right on the 305 for all the features you get.
Now comes the hard part.....waiting on the big brown truck to deliver it in a couple of days.
Congrats on your upcoming 305. In my opinion, when Minelab added multiple tones, manual GB and the Threshold tone, it made for a big improvement over the X-30. I think you'll find it a very dependable detector that may not always be known as your "backup". It has a very forgiving sweep speed and the "wide" notch segments make for a pleasant hunt. If you've not read the eBook, "Understanding your X-TERRA", you might want to take a look at it. As I mentioned several times, it ain't the "final word" on the X-TERRA series. But it does address a lot of questions that X-TERRA users might have. You can pull up the link in the sticky post at the top of this forum. And if you have any questions once the brown truck shows up, don't hesitate to ask. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks here on the X-TERRA forum that are more than willing to help you out. HH Randy
Welcome to the minelab world. I have had two xterras the 50 and now the 70. And I have to tell you the first week with my 50 I hated it then I learned it and it found lots of coins in places others had gone over then I got the 70 and I will probably alway hang on to it . It is a relic monster.
As a new X-Terra user, I'll attest to the usefulness of Randy's e-book.
I read it the day I got my 705 and got right busy with it. In the first/last 8 days (not even getting out every day) I've dug 8 wheats and an IH in "hunted out" parks and schools. Randy's explainations and suggestions made learning the X-Terra's language much easier than just the standard user manual. Once you understand the "how" and "why", making adjustments on the fly when necessary is a breeze.
I don't know what your other detector(s) is, but you might just like the X-Terra enough that it becomes your "go to" machine.
Thanks for the welcome to Minelab, I'm looking forward to the experience. Over the last 30 years I have been a fan of the Fisher and Tesoro brand of detectors..... excellent depth and never failed to produce lots of good finds.
My favorite detector has been the excellent Fisher CZ5 with 5,8, and 10 1/2 inch coils....it's still one of the best detectors I have ever owned and I continue to use it today as my main detector. Another favorite is the Tesoro Silver
