I am considering buying a X-Terra 305. How accurate is the TID and what depth can it detect. Will it ground balance on wet salty sand?

The 305 is a great detector, but most people buy the 705 or the 505.
Last year was the first I had the xterra 305. The TID is very accurate even at lower depths.
I was pulling quarters at 8" - 10" and dimes at 6" - 8".
It's not a great lover of nickels, but they do come, but not like my Ace 250. The high freq coil would probably do better,
The condition of the ground plays a big roll in depth.
I used it on the beaches of York Maine and did pretty good with it,.
You did lose depth in the wet sand, but over all it brought home some change.
In the dry sand it was excellent.

I love my 305. I did get a DD coil for it and looking forward to the ground thawing. I have a post on here as how to distinguish a very deep signal but I can't get anyone to respond.

I also have a 305 that i bought back in december.I haven't had it out yet but am looking forward to spring to try it and my 5x10 DD coil. I had a garrett and sold it , thought i would go Minelab. Got a smokin' deal on the 305 w/9" stock coil from Richard at Backwoods then a few weeks later bought the 5x10 DD coil(another great deal) from him also.Hope to see some more 305 users on here. The USA chapter on the MLO forum is so dead and I am hungry for info, tips etc on this unit. Seems like the 705s are very popular on this forum but I didn't want to drop that much $$ on my first Minelab.I figured that if this 305 does me well ,I will eventually get a 705 since most of the coils are interchangeable(great job Minelab). Come on 305 users and post up!!!

I personally would prefer the 305 over the 705. The 305 can hold it's own with the 705. I've owned the 30 for 3 years and the 70 for close to 2 years. I find that the 12 notch system works very well. Narrow enough to tell junk from good targets, yet wide enough to give a more stable TID. The TID seems to be fairly accurate. The 30 will hit a target down to 8 inches max.
I honestly don't understand why there aren't a LOT more posts about the 305. Perhaps some might think that it's beneath them. I think that there are actually tonnes of the 305's out there and folks should be proud to own them.
The high frequency DD coils seem to hit targets better than the standard coil.
If I were to update my 70, then it would be with the 305 or it's next model. It's a simple easy to use detector that is good value, better value than the other 2 models (personal opinion). Oh; did I mention that it's pleasant to use too!

You sound like you have tons of commonsense. You must be a conservative.
