x-terra 305

New member
What is this detector like as far as abilities? I don't know a lot about Minelab, so if you could compare it level wise with a Tesoro or something.
Also, what is a good price for a "like new" used Xterra 305 detector?

Thanks, Elwood.

I have never used a 305 , but i know that a used one is around 300 to 325. Not alot cheaper than a new one.

Elwood, The 305 is a very good machine and a step up from any detector in the $200-$300 range. Most in that class have fixed ground balance and you can't change freq with the coils nor the selection of coils. Just check out the FAQ section at the top of this forum, alot of great info there!!!

Well i use the 305. Got it new from a sponsor of this forum. Traded the x50 for it. I like it much better then the 50. It is as deep as the 50 for sure. Traded one of the Ace 250 for the x50 and didn't regret it at all. The 50 and the 305 in my case was no comparison with the ace. I think you would like it. HH

Thanks for the responses. Can anyone compare it to the Tesoro Bandido 2

I won't sell the Bandido II uMax short, as it is one of the most highly sought of the older uMax models. It has good depth and is darn decent in nail infested sites. There are some similarities between the functionaligy of both, having Threshold, manual GB, Sensitivity adjustments and an All Metal mode. However, all things considered, if I were going to buy one or the other for coinshooting, I'd chose the one with Target ID and notch discrimination. Target ID allows me to confirm target signals by the TID number. And notch discrimination allows me to reject specific targets without getting rid of everything with a more ferrous content, as you do with the variable discrimination of the Bandido II. The X-TERRA 305 also allows me to switch frequencies by simply using an accessory coil. Again, I won't tell you the Bandido II isn't a decent detector. But since it is no longer being manufactured (I believe it came out around 2001), and the X-TERRA 305 was just introduced this past year, I'd go with the modern technology. JMHO HH Randy
