X-Terra 5x10DD Coil for Coins Question

I was wondering if any of you have used this coil on your X-Terra's for coin hunting? I have the stock and 6 in.DD. I like the shape of the 5x10DD and would like to know how it stacks up to the stock 9in. for depth, trash seperating etc.? Thanks in advance. HH Joe

You will find it does a pretty good job. The detection pattern is a bar right down the middle of the coil. You will not get quite as much depth as the 10.5" 7.5 kHz DD or the 9" 3kHz coil, but you really won't be giving up too much depth. Most coins are within 5" of the surface. The 5 X 10 will easily detect them. I would prefer it to the stock coil if they were the only two coils that I had.

Good hunting, John K

I've only had my XT70 since last Thursday but at this point, I like the 5X10 18.75khz coil better than the stock 7.5khz coil. I may have a different opinion in time, just because the machine is so new to me. I found a silver Roosevelt dime at 7" today, in dry soil. I wont try to quote any settings numbers at this point. I used auto ground balance, tracking off and sensitivity at 27. It seemed real stable. I've found quite a few other coins in the last few days as well and a silver ring this morning in my back yard. All the areas I've tried with the XT70 are areas I've pounded to death with my old Ace 250 and it is turning up quite a bit for me. I am really happy with the machine.

The Elliptical Coil is a High Frequency (18.75khz) DD coil - and was not actually produced for coin hunting. I have no doubt that it will assist in finding coils but it's purpose is actually for finding gold nuggets.

I tried the 5x10 coil for coins in the turf and didn't like it nearly as much as the stock coil. I do like the 5x10 for tot lots in the sand or wood chips. It hits hard on small jewelry targets, and I do mean small. I was in shock at at this tiny heart it signalled at 4 inches. It gave a great signal, but I had trouble finding it because if it's size. It was gold plated copper, and had been an earring with the post broken off. It wasn't much bigger than a BB...

I'm with you. I don't think the 5 x 10 gets as much credit as it deserves. Happy Huntin'
