X-Terra 70 Coil choice

Hi Guys,
Have been detecting for a short time ( 15 hours ) with my 70 in the highly mineralised gold fields in Aussie.(no problems)
Unfortunately I have moved to an area where coin & relic hunting will be my only sanity & with this detector it is all new.
I have been finding coins etc in different areas but I always feel that I am missing targets.
Could the forum help me with coil choice for the following 4 areas.
#1 Beach dry sand
#2 Beach medium sand
#3 Beach wet sand(mineralised)
#4 Old sports grounds/farm houses/etc. With non mineralised soil (very quiet) but total trashy targets (nails,rusty iron, old crown seal bottle caps etc)

If I may a second question!!!!
Do you suggest using tracking in coin & relic mode.
Any other hints will be appreciated.

Thanks for the tip nugget71 hadn't explored the site at all.

I would give the 10.5" DD (hi freq) coil a shot. Good coverage and depth. I have been using it in with tracking on and then turning tracking off when I get a hit.
Im able to run my sens up to 21 in the wet sand at the ocean and sens all the way up in the dry sand. I use the beach mode in the wet sand. Im getting some pretty deep coins and foil. I like pattern 1 so I dont hear the low thumping of small iron which is prevelant where Ive been hunting. Ive tried all metal at this spot and dont feel I do any better with it. I think the DD coils really help alot at the ocean. The concentric I can only run up to 15/16 sensitivity usually and I dont get coins as deep as with the bigger DD coil. I also have the 5x10DD coil and it doesnt get the depth of the larger round DD but its a whole lot lighter. Theres always tradeoffs in detecting.......

In Australia there are sites that never help you and mainly crap on or belittle you.
Last night I started recording my ID'S from trash targets & coins.
Too early to comment but I am getting some surprising results.

Digger,
I have noticed that some patterns do knock out certain coins.
Coins with similar compositions have larger TID's depending on size of coin.
Coins eroded by ground mineralisation have lower TID's to coins in good condition.
I hope this info is a help or of interest to all the forum members.
Any interesting relics or coins I find I will post.
It's low tide where I live and I'm going wading for one of our most popular crustaecans " blue swimmer crabs "
Legal size 12cms (5") (or larger) between the carapice or about 20" from claw to claw.
Do you have any type of crab catching like this off the beach!!!!!

My post wih TID's never came out as I typed it.
I used a format with columns for the different TID's.
The 4 columns were
1. All Metal
2. #1 Pattern
3. #2 Pattern
4. #3 Pattern
A lot of the trash only had two TID #s ie : All Metal & #1 Pattern
All coins had four TID #s ie : All Metal & the three Patterns.
Each target description will only show the #s from left to right not in columns.
Hope this clarifies the previous post.

In my haste to re post I forgot that in the trash targets crown seals & spoons only have 2 columns All Metal & #1 Pattern.
The 4 #s represent the variance in the TID's ie:
Crown Seals in all metal varied 16 to 48 & in #1 Pattern varied 28 to 46
Old Spoons in all metal varied 10 to 22 & in #1 Pattern varied 8 to 24
The above are the only differences in the trash target section all others have two TID,s !st # is all metal & 2nd #1 Pattern.

Boy have I made hard work of this exercise!!!!!

That's a very good effort on the TID's gold rat. No small task. I'm sorry that I can't help you out too much on the 70 as I use a 30. I haven't had much beach hunting under my belt, but from the little I've done, the X-Terra's handle the salt water remarkably well. The round DD's will improve things even more. I hunted with one for the first time yesterday and was quite impressed with how they go. Sounds like you are getting a handle on things though. Keep up the good work and welcome to the forum. If there is an area where I can answer your questions, I'll do what I can.

Thanks for the Australian TID posting, I have been looking for something like this that I can use over this side of the ditch.

One of my areas is an old army camp and have found a couple of old Aussy coins there, I will see how the older decimal currency coins compare to yours
