X-Terra 705----> :hot:Coil used and favorite pattern for Gold & Silver?

Thought I would ask the following question:

When hunting for gold and/or silver, what is your proven Disc Pattern and what coil do you swear by? Please feel free to add several pattern combination with coil combination. I personally, hunt by the seat of my pants. I am a newbie so still learning everything I can about my X-Terra 705. Thanks to Backwood's Detector Sales I have added a 6" Double-D 18.75kHz coil to my bag of tricks. I would have made the reference to the 6" coil being added to my "arsenal" but that indicates that I am deadly with it. Don't thing there are any coins or rings scared of me, YET! Hahahah! Any advice, opinions or comments will be put to good use.

PS. I really can't complain I did dig a very nice 14k gold ring w/ 2 diamonds after having the 6" coil for 2hrs. :buds:

The theory behind different coil frequencies goes like this...... lower frequencies are best suited for higher conductive targets, such as silver and copper. Higher frequencies are better suited for lower conductive targets such as gold. Lower frequencies are better suited for large, deep targets. And higher frequencies are more sensitive to smaller targets. With all that in mind, ALL three frequencies of the X-TERRA are fully capable of detecting anything metal. Including silver and gold. Some just do it a bit better than others, for the reasons mentioned.

Concentric coils provide a more accurate TID than a DD coil. But DD coils are better suited for operating in highly mineralized soils. Concentric coils will hunt deeper than a comparible sized DD. But DD coils separate targets more effectively. To reduce the chance of missing a target, overlap your concentric coil swaths by 1/2. Overlap your DD coil swaths by a minimum of 1/3.

I hunt for old coins at old sites. Sometimes I hunt in All Metal. But I usually hunt in one of my Patterns that I have set with zero discrimination. The reason I set a Pattern without any notches rejected is because when you turn on your X-TERRA, it will automatically set itself for the last Pattern mode you used. I set one up with none of the notches rejected, so it always starts up in the Pattern with zero discrimination. I also use multiple tones. I'd rather hear the sounds of all the targets, and let my ears sort out the ones I want to dig. I like the 6-inch DD for hunting in sites with multiple targets as it allows for superior separation. In wide open spots, I use the 9-inch concentric at 3 kHz. I won't swear that it finds coins any better than the other freqs. But it does provide a very distinct audio response on deeply buried iron, if you work the coil properly. JMHO HH Randy

Zero disc'. and multiple tones for me also . Of course the 3 KHz. At first the multiple tones seemed a little, "busy" but, after awhile your ears kind of get trained to listen for that particular sound and the rest just seem like muddled noise.
