hello guys, on friday went to detect , i came home and my coil is full of dirt i move it and i can hear the dirt inside the coil , i dont know if this is the coil cover that came with the coil, i think it is because as you can see the black plastic that is in the bottom of the coil is different from the top , im affraid if i take it off i will be doing something wrong, and if it is not then why did the coil get inside dirt

is this the coil cover?

pull straight down while working your way around the coil. I usually start by pulling down on the inside rim, directly under the wide spot below where the cable goes in. Then I work my way toward the front tip, and then around the outside rim. Frankly, by the time you pop the back inside edge loose, it will be a piece of cake. If it seems too tight for an easy removal, lay it in the sun, bottom side up, for a few minutes. Letting it warm up will allow for an easier removal.

Dirt, sand, water etc will get in between the coil and the cover. The purpose of the cover is to absorb the scratches you might get from an abrasive surface. It is much cheaper to replace the cover than the coil itself. JMHO HH Randy

After you clean it out and put it back on a wrap or two of electrical tape around the join will prevent this from happening in future hunts :)
