X70 my mind is blown please help..

I dont know I may be stupid but I dont think so, for I purchased an minelab! So I have an x30 and its basicly a grab and go and I dont have to do anything but dig all targets.. Ive had some good finds. SO I purchased me an x70 awhile back and then had some medical issues that laid me down for some time. Now Im up and at them...You would think that all that time I would have been trying to understand GB, sensitivity, threshold, and on and on..Ive been reading but find that I have had an overload to say the least. Once i think OK i think i got it i try to implement my education and to no avail..frustration sets in and I want to sale that dam thing..I need some help...Ive asked digger and hes given me some tips and I guess I just dont get it..what I need to know is.............Is there a basic setup once you turn it on where i can set it and GO! A series of buttons to push that get me started. Gosh I know it has to be easyer than what Im making it to be. Ive tried this..menu select---> noise cancel--> (bob coil) press and hold still mode auto--> then pinpoint/detect. Ground balance 1 all metal--> GB---> auto mode bob coil---> pinpoint detect---> all metal. Its so confusing to me..please help or just delete me or shoot me..I just want somewhere to start...Thanks..

You can turn it on auto noise cancel and hit tracking button. There is no need to bob coil with it on. And you are ready to hunt just put it in the pattern you want.

Ok let me quote you......you say turn the x70 on auto...push the noise cancel button....and then push the tracking button and go...do i need to pause for something in between buttons or not.....please tell me its that easy..I do want to be a (DIGGER) some day but for now if i can just get the thang to help me a bit I would be happy..

After hitting noise cancel auto wait until it gives you a tone. that lets you know auto noise cancel is done. Then hit tracking that ground balances on the fly. That is the easiest way to just turn on and hunt. You can tweek all the other stuff after you get used to it. Just do not over do the sensitvty . I run a xterra 70 also. Actually I have two of them and going to sale one of them in the next couple of weeks. I just do not need two of them and could use some Christmas money. The xterras are just so good I willl probably aways have one. That is all I hunt with.

Thank you so much at least now I wont pull out my hair or go balistic on the x70....I do like it and almost decided to sale it..Thanks alot for the tips..

Dont forget to put your threshold to the lowest audible sound that you hear. If you use head phones , mine is usually at 2 or 3. If you dont then mine is around 12 or 13. It's all in what YOU hear. Adjust accordingly. There is a faqfaq section here to help all! Once you do these things it's like riding a bike!

I was like you ,I was stiffled by the 705 I learned to read all the info word by word as one certain word or sentence can changed the entire meaning of an explaination.
I have to read some things over and over before it clicks,And after awhile you will be using it and bam it happens it all clicks and comes together piece by piece.
If I read your post right about bobing the coil during auto noise cancell don't bob it during noise cancell thats only during GB.For ground balance just put it in tracking mode that will take care of it self.
I'm still no x-pert with the 705 but I'm getting pretty good with it also.
People here don't mind questions if they don't like them then they don't have to answer.
There are some here that really know the X-terra series and helped me tremendously they will most likely help you to.
Good luck with it .

This is how I setup:
Recommend doing a factory reset check your manual.
Clear ground
1-set sens.24-26
2-auto noise cancelle no bobbing
3-auto GB bobbing coil
4-threshold I run around 5 slight humming in the phones varies for different people.
If useing headphones set volume to full (30) and adjust with phones
I hunt with the 99 tones mode all metal.
Check your manual for using the correct icons for the settings.
HH......It will all click and come together.

You can also go to the back cover of the AT-70 manual and use their "Quick Start Reference". It will require a little reading, but that is all. I would "also" highly recommend that you learn to do a "Factory Preset" (Pg. 44) as it clears out all the settings that have been added to your XT-70 since the last Factory Preset was done and allow your detector to run as efficiently as when it was new out of the box. Doing this will require that you learn to adjust most of your preset factory settings such as your sensitivity, volume, threshold, amount of tones and so forth, but that shouldn't be a problem since you already own a XT-30.

Thanks to all for your help...and you are right rseasy1 one little word or a change in method seems will mess a guy up completely..I dont have a owners manual so factory preset info I may have to find on here somewhere...Thanks again Gents..

Some where on this site is the manual you can down load then print it
Good luck

We now realize why you were having such a terrible time with your XT-70. You should have said something, we would have been glad to have led you to a site that shows a XT-70 manual. There are many such sites including Minelab's own company site, if I'm correct. If by chance you don't have a functioning printer, the FAQ's at the top of this page can answer many of your questions on the XT-70/705. Otherwise printing off a free copy of Digger's book "Understanding the X-Terra" is an even bigger help. Feel free to contact me, if you have any general knowledge questions about the XT-70 in the future. Once you get a copy of that online manual, things will go a lot easier for you.

Sorry. My first link is to a 705 manual. HERE'S a link to the XT-70.

Thanks again Gentleman I do appreciate it very much.
