Did some test to see if changing the kh would help in the unmasking of targets . I also did some test in the field at the 1817 homesite but my camara wasnt on lol.

Great video thanks! That answers the question as far as I am concerned. I hunted a very trashy house site today and tried different 8 vs 18 and I could see no difference either. Yesterday I hit a house site that we had picked clean with several detectors including the Deus and the Fors Cor with a small coil. I hunted with the sifter program right in the footprint of the house and it sounded like a machine gun going off there were so many nails. I bumped the reactivity up to 4 and lowered the sensitivity to 81 and was blown away by the good targets i picked out. Nothing deep of course but found a barrel tap and a rifle band along with harmonica pieces etc. Really suprised me that I could get a good reading.

thats where im at home when the machine gun is firing . I learned my machine that way because thats the way the sites are I need to clean up. Ive got a place in the thickest of iron I can try lowering sens and raising reactivity. I pulled a trime from a iron patch that others lefted behind doing that. congrats on the finds.

I think the key point to all this is learning when to raise the reactivity and adjust sensitivity. When you do so you lose depth so matching the soil type, ground balance, reactivity and sensitivity is the question. In other words finding the sweet spot. Maybe the best approach is to hunt in "layers". Maybe start with fast and shallow and work deeper or just the opposite. To me the key is using zero disc. so you can know when the iron ends and you can bump up the sens. and lower the reactivity.

You have to dig the first layer off because the machine will not be able to see down thru the thick iron, I have been using this approach at the old 1817 house which was lived in up until the 1990s or early 2000.Once you lower the reactivity you lose your seperation and to me thats where the problem comes when hunting the trash. Ive hunted sites that have been pounded with minelabs, teknetic t2 and both of these are deep seeking machines. When I put the deus on these sites with the reactivity on 3 I pulled relics that they lefted behind, went behind an at pro and it was like it was never hunted . My point is I will trade depth anyday of the week for seperation in iron because I dont believe the machine can see it.. I will give you an example my partner dug a spoon from a trash pit on a site thats polluted with iron A SPOON I did a test I buried it in a hole 6 inchs deep in the thickest iron. You know what happened the spoon was masked and dissappeared the machine couldnt see it the big end on the spoon disappeared. I agree totally about the layers been working for me started shallow well im still on the shallow part maybe in an year or so I will have the top layer dug off at the 1817 house. You are correct about finding the sweet spot knowing when to shift programs I have 4 programs back to back sifter, sifter hot sens 90 tx 2 reactivity 3, wardeep sens 90 reactivity 1 tx 2-3 12kh, wardeep 2 its the same except its set on 4 kh. I have discrim set on 1 in the wardeep programs to eliminate a little ground noise. Thats the way I hunt relics pretty simple ,I like my machine open with no discrim or as little as possible. As soon as the iron thins I shift to deeper programs.

Another good video Calabash. I wonder if the frequency factor just really comes into play when you have extremes of ground mineralization (really mild and really strong) ?

Interesting video, using a different frequency can make a difference on certain soil conditions.
You tried different targets on the same soil.
It would be interesting to see the same targets on different soils.

So how about travelling around the US with a large trailer gathering all types of dirt to make the mother of all test beds.

Thats a thought! Do you find any major difference when the soil conditions change? My soil here is very mild and places up in Virginia has some very rough soil . I know test garden test are limited maybe I can buy some dirt off ebay. lol Which frequency works better in the highly mineralized soil on your side of the pond? UPDATE went on ebay and there is a guy actually selling dirt from virginia ,its paydirt for gold but I pm him to see if I could buy some highly mineralized dirt. thats crazy lol
