XP GB issues

Hi all,

While using my XP today, encountered something odd and disconcerting. Caveat, I am a new user to the XP still learning the machine.

I was detecting a field today, bean field with stubble. I detect with ground balance on tracking. Well, going along and the GB was hanging around 87 on both numbers, then all of sudden the machine would become unstable or chattery with lots of iron sounds and then my GB would drop to 71 on both numbers. At first I thought it might have been something in the ground, so after it would return to 87 or so I would turn around and go back through where it was just 71 and it would not do the same thing. It would stay at 87. Then I thought it might be the stubble, so I would stop when it happened then it continued for a while and then would quit on its own. Basically did it most of the day...old machines I would think it was a wire or loose connector.

I am at a loss and I am concerned that it might affect performance. I have been using detector all week with no previous problems.

Thanks to all in advance.

You have no problem, sounds like you got into some contaminated ground caused by iron decomposition. Normal ops. Tracking G/B is not always the best to run. You can try the pumping method, or even use manual. One thing about tracking G/B. Your machine when using tracking GB can actually at times track out a good target.

ok, thank you.

So, lets say I pump or manually ground balance...and come up with a numer of 87. When the ground numbers change to say 71...at what point should I re-adjust or re-pump?

You should start hearing your machine start getting noisy, nails may also start sounding good too. I find a lot of times if I'm hunting in areas with boat loads of iron/nails, I will manually set my GB to 85-87 and let it ride.

We dont use Tracking as manual suits our area better especially where there is Iron content.

Manual within 5 digits either way of the auto reading works just fine. Jerry.

I just use the factory GB in the UK have never used anything else,it works just fine and dandy,if it ain't broke dont fix it as they say.
