Looking to make a decision between the ORX and the XP Deus.As a 68 year old guy I like the weight and simplicity of the ORX.Had a Spectra V3i which I loved but the weight after a few hours of swinging just got a bit much.Wondering if there are any Canadians who have comments on either machine.I'm up in Ontario Canada and the weather is finally getting better for detecting..I'm mainly a park or beach guy but would also love to try prospecting in the Yukon one day.Have yet to come across anyone using either unit so any comments would be greatly appreceiated..thanks

I live in Michigan, so not quite Canada, but definitely a northerner like yourself. I primarily hunt old coins and relics around home sites and public areas. And like you, I was struggling with this same question recently and was leaning toward the ORX primarily because I thought the Deus would be too complicated. But I found a really good deal on a used Deus and took the plunge, and I am so glad I did. The Deus is really not that hard to learn if you put a little time into it. Admittedly I'm just getting started but it's already proven itself to me as superior to any detector I've ever used, and I've been doing this since the 70s. I'm hunting a place me and my partners have pounded to death and I'm finding silvers we missed. It's phenomenal. As an older guy, I can tell you that either the Deus or the ORX are going to be a breeze to swing. Good luck with your decision. I'll let the real XP experts chime in here now.

Thanks for your input Kapok.Have not come across one negative comment on the Deus so that says something for the detector. Will try and get my hands on both before I make the final decision and always good to hear comments from the field as well.

I feel the same way about the v3i that it gets to you after a few hours. Im looking to get a ORX, I like the v3i but i feel like i spend more time messing with settings than hunting. I kind of missed machines that were mostly just turn on tweak 2 things and get going.

The ORX is a easy to use machine and it out performs many machines in it's price range. Its deep and has awesome target separation.

I would assume that the new ORX from XP uses new electronic devices that were not available when the Deus was designed.
However, I would not expect the same level of performance as the XP Deus delivers.
Being Hundreds of dollars cheaper should indicate its standing in the performance lineup.
If finding those missed silver coins at the local park is your goal then dont cut corners to save a few dollars.
If you get out and use a detector it actualy ends up not costing anything ... it pays for itself in recovered coins ... its a proven fact!
What other hobby does that?
So why is the price of a detector even a factor?

I agree but ive used machines that cost $800-900 that beat $1500 machines in 90% of cases. Price doesnt always indicate that a machine might be better. The orx and deus are supposed to be top notch machines. Same with any other machine in the deus price bracket, V3i, Etrac etc. Although most top machines are aging and need a huge update. The processor in the etrac and v3i are literally from the 1990's.

I came from a Etrac to the Deus and my coins silver ones found was incredible! granted I found silver with my Etrac but no where near the amount as with my Deus.
I Have never used the ORX
And I was using the 9" LF coil...

What kind of hunting do you primarily do? I have the deus but really studied the ORX for a friend who was considering one. If you primarily relic or beach hunt where you want to dig everything but iron save the bucks and go with the ORX. If you coin hunt in trashy areas the ORX just doesnt have the features needed to manuever around all the junk. Go with the Deus. Its still incredibly light and in a year you want miss the extra bucks.

The Deus ORX at 13 to 15 KHz is killer on all coins remember the F75 and AT-Pro run at these frequencies and they both are great coin machines. But throw in the extra target separation and recovery rate of a Deus and the ORX will out perform both in depth and target separation. And the ORX is very light weight compared to the 2.
