XS or II Question

I've already e-mailed Minelab with this question three times, but can't get a response from them. I have an XS model and am very happy with it. I understand the basic changes in the II are in the programming. If this is correct, can my SX be "upgraded" to a II by installing the new software? If this is an option, where can I get it done and how much would it cost?
If not, should I upgrade to a II? Is there a significant difference?
Second quick question, sometime it appears my volumn is cut to about a third of it's setting. The batteries are "hot" and the volumn usually returns to it's original setting in about five minutes. I assume this is a setting problem.

I have an XS and a friend has the II, the only difference that I can see is the II gives a ferrous number in the digital mode. The software is not that much faster I do not see any performance differince, they are both great machines.
I don't think that you can update the XS to the II due to internal configurations, you would be better off selling you XS and buying the II. The best to do is see if you can rent an Explorer II for a day a see if it is worth changing machines. TB

#1...Wow everytime I E-mailed Minelab U.S.A. the response was very quick and hekpful even when I has a Sov.Best most courteous servoce after the sale I ever encountered.
#2..Explorer 11 is fitted with a new plastic type front rod and armrest built for durability. Never had any problems with mine on my XS but I hunt hard but baby my detectors especially during travel. 11 displays both Ferrous and Conduct on the digital screen for more info but it doesn't help me, perhaps some see it as an advantage or have found a way to use this info to help them on targets. Threshold can be set finer on a 11 but have no problem adjusting my XS with earphones. 11 has a slightly faster setting speed..Guess its your call whther you wish to upgrade.Whoops last but not least the 11 comes equipped with a built in stand with a 1/4 headphone jack so no need for a Sunray stand..Either way you will be hunting with a winner and hope my limited info helped..
#3..early XS units had audio problems and it seems you may have an internal problem. I would call Minelab U.S.A. as these problems may get worse.. Personally my XS works just fine for me, but life is short and if a 11 model interests you and you can afford it, let me know what you want for your used XS.

How can one tell if the XS one owns is an older model ??? Serial # ??? Explain early models more???

Had the XS, and the only reason I traded up was someone "borrowed" it out of my truck. Both seem about the same in depth, the ll "may" recover a little faster, still a great value compared to the cost of a new exll, find em fairly cheap now

If Dec comes up on screen its an earlier model and may or may not have new plastics..If Sep comes up its a newer model and has new plastics..Newer models also have a nipple on the middle rod to keep from slipping and have silver screws holding. Guess one could interchange these parts so can be innacurate...
Basically some of the newer models have one or the other but if they do are definetly a newer model so mainly look for Sep coming up on screen when it turns on is your best bet to tell a new model...
