XT elliptical coil problem

I just got an XT 705 used. It is in great condition. It came with 5 coils, 4 of which work fine. The elliptical coil does not work, I don't get any of the error messages just alot of nothing. What could be the problem? The detector will do everything as though there is a coil there but it wont detect.

Does the machine ID the coil?
Turn it on, then press the Menu/Select chevron. Then press and hold the Accept/Reject button. The machine should display dH.

If it does not ID the coil, then it either has a broken/bad connection, or it has some other defect and needs to be sent in for inspection/repair.

The chip in that coil may have been drowned. That coil isn't waterproof.

It does id the coil. Still gives no errors. I wiggles the cable connections and it didnt change any thing. Not rocket science but some times it works. I am going to call ML and ask them direct. Thanks for the advise.

I did some testing with the coil and found that it does work. I had to turn up the threshold and sensitivity to make it register even large metal objects. Its just very weak. Has anyone ever had this problem? I called ML and they advised me to buy a new one. i don't particularly like that option. I just bought this detector, its used but very little. the coil looks new. I already have the 10.5 hf dd, if I replace the elliptical should I just get the 6" HF DD?

That's what I would do, buy the 6" HF DD coil.
