Guys, I gotta tell ya, if anyone has a chance to pick up an 30, GO FOR IT. I just got one and I did some testing. Now, I'm a relic hunter most of the time, so, I think that it will be a real turn on and go machine. Don't let the fact that it has fixed ground balance bother you either. I hunt in all metal mode on my 70 do that is what I tested the 30 in. With the 10.5 DD 7.5 kHz coil on the 30, it hit just as hard as the 70 or the 705 in my soil, which is bone dry right now, on a 3 ring .69 cal minnie that I have planted at a measured 10 inches. And it hits just as hard on all of the other targets I have planted in the 6-8" range. So, don't be afraid to buy one if you can get it for under $200. Ya just have to hang up the stock 9" coil and go for the 10.5DD.............MO:minelab:

I couldn't agree more with you Mo! I keep saying that it's a much underrated detector. I kinda missed mine when I replaced the 30 with my 70. It's surprisingly effective at discriminating compared to the 70. I find that 12 notches is plenty of discrimination. I don't know about the numbers higher than 32, as I mostly hunt for modern Aussie coins. I should have gone after copper and silver coins more, so that I could get a better feel of the upper notches. I'm half tempted to get the next model of the 305 (310?) when they get around to releasing it. A beautifully simple yet effective detector!
