XTerra 70 coil question...

MIG73

New member
If I am mostly interested in Relic hunting and/or coinshooting, what frequency(s) should I be most interested in? and what size or shape coils should I be on the lookout for in the future?

standard 'M' (medium frequency) 7.5 kHz coil to be the best "all around" performer. I do have some applications for the 'H' (high frequency) 18.75 kHz coil, and I am still working on determining if there are any strengths in the 'L' (low frequency) 3 kHz coil for me in my ground.

What is especially needed (wanted ??) is a smaller-sized coil in the 7.5 kHz frequency. So far, all three factory coils are 9" round, concentric type coils. What should be interesting is to compare the field performance of any elliptical shaped or Double-D designed coils.

One thing for certain. The X-Terra 70 is a wonderful performer and has a lot of potential for Coin hunters, Jewelry hunters, Relic hunters, and Gold Nugget hunters with an ability to handle any type of ground mineralization challenge you might encounter.

Monte,

I agree on the smaller coils. As good as the 9" performs for general use, it is my feeling that the X-terras might have been better served with the more standard 8" concentric size as a stock coil. There are definitely some tradeoffs in sensitivity settings and sweep speed requirements in anything more than moderate trash due to slightly larger than industry standard coil. Alas, perhaps marketing had more to do with choice of coil size rather than functionality.
