XTERRA 70 PINPOINTING QUESTION

Hello,

Sometimes when I am pinpointing a target on the Xterra 70 and the frequency changes to a sudden high pitch, 95% of the time the target turns out to be trash.

Anyone else come across this to?

Thx.

When you switch to Pinpoint, it makes the X-TERA into an All Metal, non-motion detector, with a visual display and audio tone with volume modulation. Since Pinpoint is non-discrimination mode, you won't be able to tell good targets from bad targets, solely by the audio response in PP mode. However, the TID will. HH Randy

Thanks for that info Digger it helps!!!

As I am still learning this machine as I came from a Whites Eagle SL 2 and the TDI on that one is totally different..

So is it just a preference to detect in AM and the pre-programme's or should I be detecting in either AM with sens turned up or one of the three programs???

Thx.

Some folks like to run with minimal discrimination, hearing all the targets that pass under the coil. Others like to run with a given amount of discrimination, hearing only those targets whose TID notch has been accepted. Personally, I like to run with ample discrimination in areas with lots of modern trash. And I'll run with a more "wide open" Pattern in areas with little or no modern trash. As to which program......I build my own, depending on the site circumstances. Accepting or rejecting a notch segment on the X-TERRA is so easy, I will sometimes start with an open screen, and add discrimination as I go, depending on the trash I get tired of digging (and knowing what numbers could be coins). I usually end up with a high level of Sensitivity and nearly always run with multiple (2:geek: tones. In my moderately mineralized soils, I run with a slightly positive offset on my ground balance.

If you've not read "Understanding your X-TERRA", I'd invite you to do so. It is available FREE on Minelab's website. A link can be found in the top post on this forum.

Yeah. That's the VCO kicking in. It's very useful on shallow targets. targets bigger than coins scream real hard. I love that feature. Use it all the time.
