Xterra 70 which coil

It will be some time before I can get out detecting (coldest February on record for us) but was wondering...... I just got a nice used new to me Xterra 70 with stock 9' 7.5 freq. coil, 9" 3 freq. coil and a 5x10 18.75 freq. coil. Being new to the Xterra detector, what would be the coil that I should use on the detector first time out with it. I detect for coins and jewelry at school grounds, parks, no beach detecting. I have used many Tesero's and always like the stock coil and either the small 4 inch or 5.75 inch coil, that being said do I have all the coils I need or should I get a small 6 inch coil for the Xterra, I would have to sell or trade one of m coils in order to get one. Thanks! Steve.

I have a thread down below about jeweler hunting.in it someone posted a video, you should watch it,great ring program.the thread is called(705 for jewelry hunting.

I will check it out, thank you.

I have never used the 5x10. But I always liked the stock coil. I really like the 9khz for coins, but it will not be very good for gold jewelry probably though. I can't believe someone else hasn't commented on this though.

Here is what I would do before you spend money on other coils I would use the 9" 7.5 Conc coil and see what type of ground balance numbers you get at several different places in your area. If most times you see GB numbers in the teens and 20's you might think about buying a DD type coil. But if most times you see GB numbers in the uppers 20's and higher you would only want to buy a Conc type coils. As far as what Freq to buy, that depends on what you like to hunt for. The 3 kHz is better for silver and copper. The 7.5 kHz is a good all around coil and the 18.75 kHz is better for nickels and gold, the low conducters.

Since you have all three kHz coils and if your soil is not real hot I do not see the since in buying any other coil, but if your soil is real hot then I would think about buying a DD type coil.

I would suggest that you read Randy's blog articles on coil selection.

I checked my ground balance out today in a few different places that I hunt. My numbers ran from low 40's to low 50's on the ground balance. Looking at what everyone is posting the DD wouldn't really be right for me and I might need to stick with what I have?

Greetings:
From my past experience I found every thing that I was searching for in parks with the stock coil, (rings to silver coins). The 6 inch high frequency coil has been a plus for me also.
