Xterra 705 Notching vs. All Metals

Guys, on this 705 if I choose Pattern #4, BUT open the field meaning no nothches at all, is that basically just like hunting in All Metals? If not, what is the difference?

In a nutshell, AM hears everything.
In Disc the signal passes through filters, and with nothing notched the machine still tries to put everything into a specific target bin. It can be beneficial by making ID "less jumpy".

every 48 I dug as been wrapped around iron ... think of it as a circle with -8 and 48 next to each other

last year I did have a real 46 it was a huge copper token size of a silver dollar of the White House on one side the Capital on the other

There is a difference. Check out pages 86 and 87 in my eBook. HH Randy

Digger, I read it again, and then I read it again. I believe I understand the difference. If I hunt in Coin mode, discrimination Pattern 2 and Accept everything except maybe 48, I will be on the right path, and also on my next hunt, the detector if I want to will already be set up to this pattern? I am correct in saying this? I have read many times your explanation on the coils, and then read it again. Believe me when I say you have done an exceptional job on holding our hand lets say, it is just me. I have the stock coil on my 705, and I want to get at least one more. I am debating between the Coiltek 15" and 6" digger. I am like you as far as to say I just hunt for coins, if something else falls under my coil then great, but I love coins. And sound wisdom on a optional coil?

yes the 705 goes to one of the 1-4 programs whatever one you had it on last so if you used 2 last there is where it will be when you turn it on
Digger coil is great for trashy area's and the 15" coil would be good for fields or beaches with little trash targets

I gave it a try today with mode 1 and everything opened up and I'm impressed

Surfchunker, what did you notice the most, if you do not mind me asking. Still to much snow where I am, but it is starting to melt a little.

it just settles in on a bin a little better than AM mode ... took it to a place I hunted super hard last year and hit it yesterday with my New ETrac and I know I went over the same spot with it and probably 30 times last year at least and pulled out a quarter and 3 pennies ... I think it makes it think harder ... lol

Keep in mind that if you wipe out 48 on your pattern, you run the risk of missing silver dollars. I have tested 4 different silver dollars and they all came up a solid 48 with no bouncing to 46. Before I did this test I thought a silver would ring on 46. I have been sadly misstaken in my assumption of that, just going off of what I read. I will never discriminate out 48 again. The only notches I blank out in pattern 2 are the neg notches.

I noticed the difference. To me the response time was a bit slower in disc, nothing notched. The threshold will null for just a sec if I'm swinging too fast in real trashy iron, not possible in AM. It seems to be trying to "figure it out" while categorizing the target into a more specific bin. I definitely notice the less jumpy ID, but I feel I need to swing a tiny bit slower in very trashy areas in disc mode (no notching) than in AM. Many times I will hunt in AM mode and switch over to my zero notch disc pattern to see if the ID locks on an better on iffy signals. This is how I hunt If the area is very trashy, say 8-10 targets per swing or more. HH, Scott
