Xterra 705 Tid for Gold

Anywhere between -4 on very small gold to +36 on a $20 US gold coin.
Also depends on depth.

Good hunting

Denny

Denny is right on the money. In my family the men's gold wedding bands air tested at between 6 and 22 on my XT-70. $20 gold pieces and large Chinese 24 k. gold rings will read as high as a dime.

my xterra 70 locked on at 22 solid on a big 10k gold classring. This was with the 18.75 oval coil, ring was about 5 inchs deep.

For gold it depends on the purity of carots(K), for example the more silver mixed(alloyed) with the gold the higher TID number. And the second consideration which applies to all metals including gold, it depends on the surface area facing the coil, the more surface area facing the coil the higher the TID number.

If all different types of metals are tested with the exact same surface area facing the coil, then the conductivity comes into play. Just for example, Iron--Gold--Copper--Silver in order of conductivity from low to high. The higher the conductivity, the higher the TID number.

Went back thru numerous forum sites and after much research found that almost exactly half of all gold rings are found in the nickel range (9-11% of all gold rings) and below all the way down thru foil (35-37% of all gold rings) to even the high iron range (2-3% of all rings). While the other half of all gold and platinum rings found, range from just above nickels to as high as pennies (4-5% of all gld. & pltm. rings) and even a few as high as dimes (1-2% of all gld.& pltm. rings). It just goes to show you over how wide a spectrum, gold and platinum rings may be found. Almost mind boggling isn't it? All the way from high iron up thru foil, nickels and pull tabs to as high as dimes. Unfortunately the vast majority of all gold rings are found in the foil and pull tab range which means most of us have to dig a lot of trash to find them... Don't quote me on the above, they are just my findings. Everyones finds will vary.

A while back I found a small -medium (6g) 22k plain ring similar to wedding band and it came in at 28
Also a slender 9k ring with a diamond and 2 sapphire at just 8
David is right - it depends on how much gold is in it (how big it is) and how pure it is...the higher each of these - the higher the TID no

Found it interesting that with your gold rings, each one fell in a different half of the gold ring spectrum with one in the lower 50% range of all gold ring finds (high iron thru the foil and nickel range), while the other ring was in the upper 50% range of all gold rings finds (above nickels thru the pull tab range to as high as pennies and dimes.). My own personal findings would suggest that it is more like 2/3 of all gold rings fall in the nickel and below range, with only about 1/3 of all gold rings above the nickel range. But my studies show differently for whatever reason...

I've found gold rings with TID's as low as 6 and as high as a 40 in one case. Here's a couple posts I made in 2006 regarding some "ring" TID's.

Digger: Thanks for posting that info. again, have always kept a printout of that first post in among my notes on the XT-70. Much of the info. that I have on the XT-70 came from your postings. Keep up the good work!

Re. Gold TID no's

.....One other factor

I have found 2x Rose gold items and they both register higher than expected
This would be due to the copper content in the gold

Everyone has pretty interesting input regarding gold tids. Just goes to show we should all hunt mainly in All Metal to avoid missing these nice finds. I have missed some nice finds, only to have a friend go over the same area minutes later and pull them out of the ground with his Explorer because he hunts in all metal to avoid these odd signals, and dismissing them as junk. I expect my finds with my 705 to be way better than last year. Sure I will have to dig more trash but I won't miss the good stuff. Besides look at it this way, after digging tons of targets in AM you will start to recognize targets by the tone instead of the TID which is more accurate. For this reason I hunt in multitone in C&T mode.
