Xterra upper shaft question

D&P-OR

Well-known member
Has anyone replaced the upper "S" shaft on the Xterra 70 or 705 (or any of the Xterras for that matter) with a straight shaft?----If so, what did you think of that change?---What upper shafts from other detectors would work (fit, or be adapted to fit) if a person was to do this?----The Sovereigns (now) have a straight shaft, I wonder why Minelab elected to use the "S" top shaft instead of a straight one.---Should give a light, pretty well balanced detector (Xterra) even better balance, RIGHT??------Opinions please! :)--------Del

The Sovereign, Safari and E-Trac are heavier detectors and require a different shaft assembly to allow the cable to be fed manually up inside the shaft. The X-Terras are much lighter and better balanced for their lighter weight with the S-shaft. The kink in the X-Terra shaft is only very slight. It's not as pronounced as the SD series of PI detectors - which have a fairly prominent S bend by comparison. The distribution of weight on the X-Terra shaft means you can physically balance the machine more conveniently when holding it without having to place your arm through the support sling at the rear.

Cheers!

I do know that someone sells a straight shaft for the X-Terra. I just can not remember who? Good luck to you on this one, Beale.

You might try putting the bended shaft on backwards and one fellow even put the coil on backwards which helped him. The Sov's were a heavier unit and probably the most modded unit ever but X-terra's to me are like swinging a feather but then again we all have different arm lengths, strengths, personal preferences etc. and hope you mod it to your spec's. Specific names are not allowed on forum rel straight shafts so E-mail me....Detectdan@msn.com

Try Indiannations.com...I believe they have a straight rod for the X Terras...
