My connector on the electronics side cracked and Minelab fixed it for free. It would lose threshhold for about 2 wks then went dead. I have 3 rechargeable pods. I use a Duratrax Intellipeak charger, so I know exactly what is going on during charging. One of my pods doesn't make electrical contact unless I adjust it just right. I never connect the pods really tight on the Excal. I am afraid to crack something. The Minelab tech said the connectors just crack sometimes even if not cranked down. So, I am thinking the battery connection setup can be a little dicey. If you have access to a digital charger, you could see if the pod isn't making good contact. Setup is still better than having to open up a machine to change batteries. Good luck.

MAX, this might be a dumb question, but are you using (100%) silicone grease on the rubber washer that resides on the 3 pins of the battery connector, if not you will end up doing electrolysis on your battery connectors, I also don't tighten mine very tight. It sounds more like you are getting some falsing due to the housing being at water level. Are you using the Excal 1, or 2? It might just be a shielding thing inside the electronics housing, if so you probably can't do a dang thing about it. I noticed mine doing something similar as a wave would break over the housing (I was hip mounting mine) but it wasn't a problem since my hips were usually under water. HH Joe

I'm on a city comitte that oversees special events on the oceanfront. I know that concert stages up and down the beach this weekend generated a LOT of volts. My machine went crazy in the water exactly like yours, especially with the box submerged, but it was inconsistant dependng on which block I was hunting. I hunted again low tide Monday after the concerts were done; got a nice smooth threshold again.

BEACH HUNTER 300:thumbup::whites::usaflag:!!!!! Sorry.....Hope you get to the bottom of the issue!!! Good luck:thumbup: Hope we get a good winter hunting season....you got to head north for a Nor'Easter one of these days!!!

You'll are looking at the wrong END. The coil is cause your problem not the Battier Pack. Your coil is about 6 feet under water and there is about 40 to 50 lbs. of pressure on the coil. If you take coil and keep it still on the bottom for 30 to 40 secs.or until the chatter stops or you can turn off your detector reset with the on the bottom.this work well for me and maybe for you. Good luck with this problem Happy Huntting Ron Lord ,Naples, FL.

Hey John, what Duratrax Intellipeak charger do you have? It sounds like a great idea, I just started using an Excalibur-II and don't feel too sure of the charging process after reading all these posts. I sometimes use it for a few hours (4-6) and don't want to recharge it at that time, thinking that it won't fully charge. This charger sounds like a great idea. Any info will be appreciated. Happy hunting everyone and most of all, have lots of fun and find lots of gold.

Digital Pulse Charger, designed for battery packs. Has a discharge, peak charge a slow charge mode. I put a male-female plug connection with pigtails to both my Excal and Infinium pack adaptors. You can find the chargers on-line or a local hobby shop. I would suggest a VOM also, as it takes all the guesswork out of deciding when to charge the packs.

My excal been doing the same. Take a look at the battery cable. I noticed on mine that the cable had stretched (or shruck) at the point where it the cable goes into the connector (by that silver collar). Where I could see the 2 wires. I unscrewed the connector and pulled it back into place so it sit and seals good. So far works great with no breaks when it gets under water.

Worth a look into.
