Yesterdays outing...

Yesterday was a beautiful day, here in the Pacific Northwest! A little fog in the morning, buring off to brilliant blue skys. One of those days where being outside is your goal. So I took an hour off work and went detecting. Went up to a local reservoir that has been drained down for the winter. I try to get up there at least once a year to scan the empty beaches.
Not much to find in the semi-sandy areas, but did hit a few coins around the dock area where people dive and fish. The ground here is very mineralized with iron, so you have to go really slow with short sweeps. Even then, most of the good targets were partially masked and real choppy sounding. I did manage to find a couple of buck in quarters, a buck in dimes and the usual 20-30 cents in pennies (and a couple of nickels). No Jewelry  I did find an unusual coin. A Euro-nickel from Spain. What its doing at the bottom of a reservoir in Oregon is a mystery, but fun to find. Here are a couple of shots of the fall follage, pretty much at its peak right now.

Sounds like a great hunt nice pics I miss the pac. NW was stationed at whidbet island while in the navy, and was born in renton. Loved the Island

Nice place! My father lives in Port Angeles, to the west. My sister lives in Tacoma. I like to visit that area, but there's too many people to ever want to live there!

Did you ever drag a magnet along the drained beach area ? Something might surprise you. Neat pics, streve in so az

Nice pics J and congrats on getting out to enjoy a beautiful day......God's beauty is worth more than any treasure a detectorist might find and glad you did find a good coin and $ count! :) I guess someone from Spain was visiting a relative or ? where you live and lost a nice coin for you to find as a blessing from God!

God Bless!

It would probably get covered pretty quick with black sand! What else might I find?

have a heavy, large magnet the black sand wont bother anything else sticking to it. I haven't used one on a beach but have done so many times at old Rr sites, dumps & such. One can find watch fobs, buttons, guns, knives, badges, etc. I made my magnet using about 8 earth magnets a friend gave me from the mines. I put them together inside an aluminum housing and it works great. I used 2 "L" shaped 12 inch long pieces for the housing. I put in 2 eye bolts for the rope so I can drag it and it stays the course. Here's a pic of it, steve

I had wondered about using something like that at a ghost town I went to last year. I thought of using it more to remove the trash, but it sounds like it can do that and more!
