There not a day go by that I don't think about flying that CAP (Civil Air Patrol) L-16,I still have that feeling of how it was to fly it.Now I was checked out to fly a few other air planes but it was something about that L-16.

This was my honey,Beautiful ain't it??

When I was "in my 20's" my brother took me for a ride up in a plane that he was piloting ,and without any advanced warning he handed the controls over to me and told me to fly the plane.....I was scared...I didn't want to , but he insisted ..said it was "easy". .....it was over a lake..didn't really know what I was doing , but I got us across the lake ... never went up in a plane with my brother again.

The A2 Alon Ercoupe ( rudder version ) was a rental sweetheart . Step down into 2 tiny seats, slide back fighter canopy, altimeter, airspeed and a turn & bank ... simple ! Fuel tank at windshield level JUST ahead the firewall, fuel level indicated by a cork float with an L shaped wire visible ! Lots of dihedral to the wings, about 5 mph difference between cruise and flat out ! Would like to have thumped the guy who eventually fatally bent it beyond rebuild !

The 172 is a look-a-like to my 172 Hawk XP 2, the souped up version with 195 hp fuel injected Continental, constant speed prop, float hardpoints and all the bells and whistles. Dang it, now you got me thinking back !

As an observer over Korea in 1956.We where in the Sea of Japan for three weeks.We took off the Oriskany in a AD-5 Skyraider we had three observer's aboard the plane.Nothing happen,We just looked.All plane captain's went on two missions.
