And this is why!
Finally got some photos of my hunt from the Christmas new year week. Totals were $252 in modern coins. 2 Hong Kong 10 cent pieces, 1 US penny, one working mobile phone (handed in), 4 cars, only 1 kept, 2 bits of jewellery, 4 keys, 1 kept for photo, lots of rubbish and a good time had with a personal new record for a weeks hunt.
Posting as promised.

Foreign coin finds, including Hong Kong 10 cent coins (found on different days, and a US zinc penny (they are in the same notch as our $2 coin) and also the usual Kiwi coins.
Although that I would show you what a real penny looks like against those pretend pennies that you have in the US:poke: Also has a more modern Australian 1 cent coin as well.

Off subject. A few of you may remember me commenting on my brothers attempt to swim the English Chanel last July. I've now got a photo of an article that went into one of our local rags about it. Thought there might be some interest in it.
If you will remember. England suffered some major storms at that time with wide spreed flooding. Only 6 hours before his deadline to start the attempt, there was a 5 metre swell in the Chanel. He start his attempt at 11pm, only 1 hour before his deadline elapsed.

Nice Aussie large penny! You dug that one, yes?

I have dug Canadian large cents and US large cents here in the States, but neither are quite so big as that.

Are you Down Under or in Kiwiland? Judging from the coin hoard, it looks like you're a Kiwi, I guess?

Every get any young-head Vickie stuff, or any Victorian stuff, for that matter? I had a really neat NZ token with the young head obverse. It was large penny sized. I didn't dig it, though- it was in some stuff I bought.

No, I didn't dig that particular coin. it was given to me by my father about 12 months back. I only used it to show the difference in size. When I posted last night, I was getting the hurry up as we were going out. Left a few things out eta.
I live in Australia, we just seem to have a lot of Kiwis living here as well (about 10% of their total population) and they seem to bring their coinage with them. The fronts look the same as our coins, but their $1 and $2 coins are different.
I don't do much hunting of old coins at all but should. I came across a fellow just after he found a coin worth $7000 a couple of years back and in the latest Australian Gold Gem and Treasure magazine, there was an article about a fellow, that after doing some research, found a site in which he pulled up 18 GOLD sovereigns! They would have easily been worth $600+ each! Now if thats not inspiration to have a go at hunting old coins, then I don't know what is.
Here is a photo of some previous finds of pre-decimal and foreign coins that I'd found with the Ace.
