I'm relatively new to this great hobby or way of life, really, and am now hopelessly addicted. I have spent most of my limited experience on the beaches of Southern New England. I have just recently started dirt hunting in several parks. Unfortunately slobs have proceeded me and the areas are filled with junk! (A solid silver tone/ upper right hand cursor read turned out to be an ancient Coke can...how did THAT happen?) Any suggestions as to how I can set up the XS in these kinds of environments? The places I'm shooting date from the early 1600's so I figure there has to be some loot just waiting for me. Thanks in Advance! and HH.

If your looking for the "old" coin's in that trashie park, You may want to hunt by "depth". I don't think there would be too many coke cans down deep. also if you use full discrimination, you should be able to pick out most coins other then nickles and (gold) items.
Why don't you set the sensitivity low and completley grid a 10'x10' square plot of the park and dig out all the trash first. The jack up the sens and dig out the second layer of trash and so on. If it starts proving to be positive then that will be your method for this particular park. And I'll bet once you get rid of all the trash signals, those "good" hit's that were previously masked by the trash will start popping out! Some THer's grid an area with with a "small" coil first like a five incher and dig everything out that gives a response. Then they switch to an 8" coil and dig everything out that registers under that coil. Then finally they switch to a 10", 12 inch or larger coil to start getting the really deep Good Hit's.

Thanks for the suggestions, Rusty, much appreciated. I like the idea of gridding a 10' X 10' and digging the trash first. I will let you know what turns up.
