When I first started watching the forum's in early 2000. Lot of Tesoro hunters. Guys talking about their Sabers, Bandits, DeLorins, Cortez the Compadre. Than the mysterious Golden. Troy had a good run. I believe Tesoro sold a gang of Mojave's. Just a few years ago too. Than Wammo. K-Put.
So rather the guys quit hunting or got too old or moved on. Just not many guys telling of their hunts. Things sorta dried up in the school yards & parks, but you can still dig up some fun. Deep Tech trying to get their new analog a foot hold in North America. I was looking at the Fisher F5. It's like a Hi Bred , got knobs and a silly screen. About the closest I have found since the fall. You know Tesoro sure put a lot of tech in those little boxes. Gonna B missed. Well as for me, I got the Light Brigade. Mojave and the HH Pirate Pro. Their both closing in on a thousand coins this season. Makes a challenge.

Lots of those Tesoro guys are now up in age 60-80's. Many no longer physically able to get down a dig a hole and get back up too many times. Maybe even still have a Tesoro or two hanging about for old times sake.
The younger crowd these days who in their 40's or so look to the new fancy pants machines with bells and whistles that resemble cell phones. Lucky some still got into detecting using a beep and dig machine and know their value.............................most of the time they cost far less than a screen machine. More fun to use....................like the Mojave and Pirate Pro.

I will use beeps and screen machines and seem to find the same amount, type of treasures and trash.

DeepTech is making a go of it with the Vista X. Might just revive a new generation of beep and dig detectorists.

That Silver Saber Umax you souped up Sven, now that would be considered a Roadster in my book.

I agree. It would be hard to convince a young'n that a machine with a few knobs and a couple of switches is the way to go. No fancy screen. No downloadable programs. No rechargeable battery pack.

Old Post, but maybe I'm the only guy (or gal) in his 30s that still looking best my tesoros.
I have "fancy" detectors too, but something about the tesoros. Fell in love with my 8" compadre and as they say the rest is history.

that's great! that little mojave is a "crackerjack" coin hustler!..use mine on the curb strips
and get my share! terrific 7" coil on it!

Tesoro beepers are still number 1 in my book as an all purpose detector with a good coil size assortment.
I have used another beeper that surpass the Tesoro in depth but, without having a smaller 7-8" coil rather than stock 11" coil, it sat on the shelf. And I have been waiting for a year
for one to be produced..................big mistake not to have had a smaller coil available for it. Ended up parting with it during X-mas holidays.
So I would consider getting another Tesoro, if the price is right.

I started detecting with analog machines, then moved to digital ones (Garretts and then Minelabs). Buying a Mojave in 2017 rekindled my enjoyment of the hobby and increased my finds, if for no other reason than I was spending more time hunting because it was fun again. I also realized that having a visual target ID wasn't necessarily an advantage, since I'm inherently lazy and look for excuses not to dig :) A beep & dig forces me to recover more targets, and thus more good targets.

I recently got the same model of machine (DeepTech Vista X) that Sven refers to above. I too wish it had an intermediate-sized coil, but I'm pretty impressed with it so far. I've only been able to test it indoors due to the ground being frozen, but I'm pretty sure I'll end up selling my Tejon if the X performs well in the field.

I'm also selling or have sold a few of my other Tesoros because admittedly I went on a buying binge after realizing how good they were. But I doubt I'll ever sell my Mojave, Bandido II Umax or Golden Umax.

The Sovereign GT was my beep and dig machine. I loved it but I’m glad the new detectors are super lightweight as I age.
Good luck!

Don't understand why you wouldn't use the deepest machine just because it didn't have a smaller coil!

Because I mostly hunt trashy areas, schoolyards, picnic grounds, parks. Too many targets close together. Most if not all of the good targets are no deeper than 6".
The 7" coils are just about perfect for separation of such targets and for that depth range. And you can cover an area without wasting a lot of time confined to a small area when using a 5" coil.
Tesoro got it right producing the 7" coil. Nokta/Makro got it right producing a 7" coil for their detectors.

that little 7" precision concentric coil on the mojave
is really great in the junk! ..terrific match!..i'm just sayin'

Yep the Mojo busted a lot of targets in trash for me. Sold it off for a Deep Tech X analog, whole different anamal. Use another machine for close work, until the X comes out with 7 to 8 inch coil.
