What were your experiences finding gold jewellery with the Explorer?

I will try to focus more on gold jewellery, have had a few hunts where that's all I'm chasing. Seems like everything falls in the gold range, even if you're working in Ferrous.

What are some of your experiences?

Colour, have you tested any gold rings on your machine? Have you tested them in both display and digital? How about ferrous and conductive modes?
After testing your rings notice where they fall on both screens.
I started hunting nickels and pulltabs first - then I got smart and started testing rings I had found with other machines.

Yes I have done that a while ago (since then I've sold all my gold). I tested all my rings, in digital and display (used display mode when using the learn function). Then I researched where other people's gold finds were on the Explorer. I used a spreadsheet to look at the data and it surprised me. It made me think that I should be hunting in Ferrous. The three hunts I've had exclusively hunting in Ferrous just for gold, it's been difficult, everything seems to fall into that category.

The rings I had tested, all but two were found with other machines (Tesoro Golden, others were beach detectors). I honestly don't know what else I should be doing (early days), pulltabs, nickels and more junk seem to fall in that range. The other thing I can gather is gold doesn't jump around as much.

Ok your on your way - I agree 100% with that method.
I haven’t used my Exp II in quite awhile but I had my display screen about half gray and white.
You know the iron conductive line Was on a 45 degree angle.
I used it to find a women’s engagement ring but it was her backyard with very little trash.
The ring came in just into the iron zone and the tone was sweet like gold.
Gold chains are a different story. If you have one test it in digital and see what strange number you get.

Some guy (I believe his username was ”Neilo”) tested a bunch of different gold rings way back when. The VAST majority fell between 7-13 Ferrous and 4-25 Conductive. I don’t hunt gold. Firstly, without sounding like a dick....I don’t have to. Secondly, I don’t have tourist beaches and old swimming holes in which to find them. LOCATION, as we all know (wink wink, nudge nudge) is the first thing to consider. Digging 500 targets within those previously stated ranges on a BEACH will typically yield better results than the same process in a junked out park. Elementary and middle schools wouldn’t be a place to look either. We’re always trying to get an edge on the “odds”...trying to increase the chances before the machine even turns on.
Remember....no matter if you’re using Ferrous or Conductive Sounds, the target will always be placed at the same coordinates on the screen, and the numbers will also be the same. What changes is the SOUND. A nickel will read 10-05 and be placed at the same coordinates on the Smart Find screen regardless if you’re using either Ferrous or Conductive, but observe the difference in the SOUND between the two options.

Kevin, I consider this a hobby and finding AU is just part of it.
In the local parks I hunt the silver dried up so after that I hunted for gold and just enjoyed the hobby.

Kevin, you got me thinking - maybe it's time to charge the Exp II and try again in my hunted out park!

I would absolutely go and open up the disc Tony. Some people in the past have said that the Explorer isn’t good with nickels and other low conductors, which is complete nonsense. Maybe use the Iron Mask screen set at -6 for simplicity. For the relatively few times I’ve opened up the disc on the EX2 to hunt for nickels and such, it was REALLY fun. I’ve found V-nickels at 7-9” deep with the stock coil with SOLID I.D. at 10-05. That’s manual sensitivity at 20. Your conditions will vary, but you should still be able to do very well, just take your time and investigate anything that repeats with at least some regularity all the way around. Pay close attention to your depth meter! If it says 6” and you dig a 6” hole and can’t find it with the pinpointer....likely something tiny or big deep junk. Most of all....have fun! I know you enjoy hunting as much as I do, finding stuff is just the icing on the cake!

Yeah, that machine is a nickel magnet.
The truth is most folks don’t dig them because they are so bad looking when they come up.

This alone will give you an idea on what some rings etc ring up as BUT, keep in mind since rings are not made like coinage to exact same size, weight and so on there can be variations on where such jewelry ring up. When in doubt just dig!
