Hunting in Corpus Christi, TX?

Stogger

Member
Any recommendations where to hunt in Corpus Christi, TX? (Recently moved from Virginia to Texas). I have a week at Corpus. I used to hunt all night on VA Beach. Not sure how that would go over here. Thanks for any inputs.

Lots of competition in CC. The City beaches get picked pretty clean. Lots of local hunters plus many people from the Texas Hill Country now bring their machines with them when they drive down to visit. I would avoid the city beaches at night. (just not worth the risk). City beaches are loaded with crown caps. If you have the time I would suggest Rockport which is about a 30 minute drive from CC. Or, you can drive to the Island and hunt from Port Aransas all the way South to the National Seashore. You will need to avoid Mustang Island state park. No detecting on that stretch but the state parks rangers are pretty nice and tell you to move on. You absolutely want to avoid hunting on the national seashore. If you're caught there you will more than likely go to jail and lose your detector (s) and they'll probably take possession of your vehicle. Those guys are serious when they say no detecting allowed. Good luck.

Thank you for taking the time to give me some good input! And thanks for telling me where not to go!! I read on-line to stay away from detecting in the National Seashore. Virginia Beach was great at night. Rarely had any interaction with anyone, except once someone asked me to look for their engagement ring (which I found). But no "Critters" bothered me during 6 years of hunting. I'll take your advice as I don't know CC as I do VA Beach. I was thinking of Rockport (just looking at the map and someone recommended on another web site. I'm here for work, so will see if I feel up to it afterwards. We also have our 4YO Grandaughter that I need to find some shells for. I can't go back without these :) . Thanks again!! I'll let you know how it goes. Already happy to see the water! Mike

Thanks! I watched him. Looks like he had better luck than I; that's about the area North Beach I hunted. Really low tide; very quiet! Also when I went the sand was very oily. Sand didn't appear this way in Crusty's video.

Blackbird also hunts there along with several others. That's the 3 AM crowd and that's why its so quiet. Wasn't that long ago just 2-3 hunters including myself.

Yep he has been posting videos fairly regular lately. I'm planning a trip down to the Island in Dec, during the big tidal change. Hopefully some good storms will hit before I go down. I'll be camping on the beach and recently got a 5mm wetsuit I wanna try
