Which Coil For Vaquero

I recently purchased a Tesoro Vaquero that has the 11x8 coil. I'd like to know which coil I should look for to hunt areas that have a lot of the old aluminum pull-tabs and steel bottle caps. The area was used extensively for picnic/dance gatherings from early 1900's to around the end of WWII.

Thanks MuddyMo. I have a couple more questions. Does the Vaquero have ED120 or ED180 discrimination? And is there a variation of the Vaquero with a high tone? And what does that mean, two tone or just one tone that's higher?

It's around 165 or so. It is a single tone detector. There is a high tone variation, and I bet you could mod it to have one if you like.

You've had most of your questions answered, but I'll lend my support to the 6" Concentric coil. Tesoro labeled them 5.75 because White's used an awkward labeling on their 6½" coil, but if you measure the Tesoro coil, it is a 6" diameter size. All I use on my Tesoro's is the 6" Concentric.

If th site was used from 1900's to the end of WWII, you're going to be dealing with more Bottle Caps because the ring-type Pull Tabs didn't come out until the later '60s so there should be fewer if any of those.

The Vaquero / Cibola use roughly an ED-165 Discriminate acceptance range.

There are ring tabs and more modern trash because the site was used for camping, etc. after the timeframe I mentioned above, but to a lesser degree.

The small concentric and the 9x8 concentric both work better in bottle caps than the 11x8 DD. The 11x8 is more useful in wide open areas for covering ground. Bottlecaps also pinpoint much wider than coins no matter the coil.

I've discovered finding a Tesoro 6" (5.75) concentric coil is not an easy thing to do. I see Detech has a 8"x6" SEF coil available for the Vaquero. Are they any good? Haven't seen much written about them

Tesoro makes a 5.75" DD coil too. I like it as much as the same size concentric coil for picking through the trash. Tesoro also makes a 9x5 DD coil for the Lobo Super Traq that I think would be acceptable. I have never used the 8x6 Detech so I can't say anything about it.

4 pin coils, Delta
5 pin coils, Epsilon

Vaquero uses Delta coils
