I called a local camp ground to make sure I could detect only the beach area , and she said if your detector goes off you can't dig, major blow for me , I'm like why would I up grade to a new WP machine, heck I'm ready to move toward the gulf coast. Then I'll get a beach machine. Whole situation has me pissed , hell can't do much around here , sorry for the rant , Hank

You should explain that digging trash out will lower global warming effects in the camp ground

No use with them. Dang government regulations they have more things you can't do than you can .

Yep I'm going to, I'm headed south I will not be around any place with tva involved , take some time to get things in motion, been wanting to relocate anyway, oh I agree on that

From my experience, if the beach is exclusive to the campground, there's not much to find, as campers seldom wear any jewelry. Coin spills, tons of pulltabs and a bunch of tent stakes is not worth the time, IMO. However, if the beach is designated as a "recreational area" and/or "day use area", that's a different story…

Ive pull a few goodies over the years at that beach , just more over reach than I like, I get them not wanting people dig for indain artifacts from the river I really do. But a camping area beach, this law applies to all the water ways, creeks boat ramps the whole thing.

You might've spoken to some power tripping receptionist. Write an email to their official address, ask the same question. Organizations tend to be much more precise in written communications.
Even the most restrictive campgrounds (including privately managed ones), at least in my experience, still allow detecting in "developed areas"… which a designated beach certainly is.

Thanks pulltaboo, that's a great idea , yeah she she had that matter of fact attitude. Thanks alot

I don't know but it's hefty and possible jail time. Several years back a biologist that worked for tva was caught with so much indain artifacts report Said his house looked like a museum, so the items were confiscated and giving to the local indain museum. Only places I hunted was the swimming areas for coins and jewelry. I was upset forsure. I helped clean the areas where I detected too. Just isn't fair at all .

With all do respect... you say #1 you don't know... then in the next line say.. "It's hefty". Having a metal detector is not the same as taking property. So, if it's an actual law, it should be on the books, otherwise it's just a "policy" and it's not a crime. And with the law, it would state the penalty.

TVA used to issue permits to detect the beach areas, but discontinued them about twenty years ago. I used to find four or five pieces of gold every fall.It is written in their regulations.

Ain't to respectful telling someone how to write, read it and and leave it at that ,

Regs or state law. Big difference.
I'd dig a little more into state law.

Found out a TVA employee was caught on the bank digging for artifacts , had a boat chase with the river patrol , caught him and he had huge artifact collection, all was confiscated and given the the Indian museum . This incident happened 4 years ago .

Indians: We don't care about our crap enough to find it or document it ourselves, but we'd be glad to get it stolen from someone else and pretend we care about history then.

Never thought about Texas coast, only thing is my hvac ala certification is only good in Alabama, but that is something to think about, thanks

Is TVA the Tennessee Valley Authority ?
I hear that Nokta is working on a small stelth detector that straps to your ankle, and transmits data wirelessly up to headphones.
Might look silly swinging a leg while wearing bell bottom blue jeans on a beach however!
