Do any of you all own both a legend and equinox?

I have them both; Nox 800 and the Legend. Pretty evenly matched IMO. Right now I'm using the Legend more because with the small coil the unit is balanced to my way of detecting and it seems lighter. Haven't gotten the Legend in water though.

If so how do they compare? I have a nox but want to try a legend. The build quality seems better to me. And I want to dunk one and not worry about it. Lol
Have the legend and want to try the Nox lol
Two things made me choose the legend previously as researching showed both were close enough in performance and about identical in features.
One was price as legend was always close to half the price and i needed waterproof. No known issues with legend leaking. Now with the price drop on legend as others who just bought one noted too good to pass up.
Some other secondary things like optional external battery and a good 6” coil really made decision easier
Hopefully another price drop with a Nox will happen now that a new detector is finally out

I keep the small coil on as it goes deep enough for how much i want to dig lol
The external battery is really not heavy feeling and also balances well

As others have stated Capability wise there is not much difference between the Nox 800 and the Legend, the huge difference between the two is the build quality on the Legend is way better then the Nox 800

I do not personally own a Nox 800 but I do detect with some friends that do swing the Nox 800 none of us can make a determination as to which is the more capable detector the Nox 800 and the Legend have the same modes and almost run the same frequencies, my friends and I have done comparisons when detecting together and the nox sees the same targets as the Legend and the same goes for the Legend seeing the same targets as the nox 800 if I had to give the edge to one or the other between the Nox 800 and the Legend it would be the Legend handles EMI a little better then the Nox 800, and you notice in my reply to you I have not included the Equinox 600 in my comparisons, simply because I do not feel the nox 600 can be compared to the Nox 800 or the Legend because it does not have the gold field mode which both the Legend and the Nox800 does, and nox 600 also runs two less frequencies than both the Legend and the Nox 800, this is comparing apples to apples in my opinion, again personally for me the edge goes to the Legend simply because of the build quality, but capabilities goes to neither the nox 800 or the Legend

This is just my opinion for what it is worth

I'm using the Legend these days and it's serving me well. I had an early introduction NOX 800 and the screen developed a flaw within the first weel of use. It was returned and the next one worked for the remaining three weeks I had it before I decided it was inferior to the CTX in my hunting situations and I recovered my funds in a quick sale.;) Had I not had the CTX I would imagine that I would have developed the same poficiency with it that I have with the Legend but if the CTX had not croaked I would have never used the Legend. The Legend shows a better build quality as mentioned already and has more pleasing tone options ; it is the better value in my opinion.

What i have a hard time understanding is that as you said the 600 has three less frequencies than the 800.
The 600 runs 5,10,15 khz
The 800 runs 5,10,15,20,40 khz similar to the legend.
I asked on the equinox forum how the two compare the 600 and 800 and some say the 600 and 800 run identical in smf mode.
But if it has three less frequencies how does it run identical
The legend from what I understand runs smf by using two or more of the 5 frequencies 4,10,15,20,40 together.
I would think the equinox does the same combining two or more of the frequencies they have in smf.
But it is said that in smf they are identical.
Maybe the Nox does smf differently than the legend?
I did ask in the equinox forum and as i said that was the response i got.
The frequencies they run in smf and how they do it are proprietary
Maybe the legend does do it differently but interesting then how they still give similar results.
So if thats the case is one technology really superior? Is enough credit being given to NM for developing a good smf technology as is given to ML ?
Or is it a copy? In that case then how do they explain the 600 and 800 being identical in smf with less frequencies.i would think its one or the other
If NM smf is a cooy of ML smf then the 600 and 800 can’t be identical
Maybe im not seeing it
As for hardware though from everything I’ve researched from non bias options yea the legend has an edge over the Nox
Again one of the main reasons i bought the legend first over the Nox other than price no issues with being waterproof.
Speaker issues from what i hear but id still rather take my chances on speaker going than leaking.
You can still use it with the headphones if the speaker goes which is still the preferred method but you can’t use it if it leaks and shorts the control box

That’s how Minelab designed the 600 & 800. The information that I provided is in the user manual. Both the 600 and 800 run identical multi-frequencies in their respective modes.
For single frequencies on the 600, you are correct. The 600 has, 5khz, 10khz and 15khz. The 800 had 5,10,15,20 and 40khz.

Edit: in the 3.0 software, Minelab added 4khz

I have had both the 800 and 600. Currently I have an Etrac and Legend 1.09 version. Both the Nox and Legend are excellent detectors and both are deep. In my opinion, the Nox hits deeper coins with more authority than the Legend. I have found 8 plus inches deep coins have very weak audio. The Nox is much more distinct on these deep coins. I have finally tuned my ears in on these deep coins with the Legend, but I would not hear them without the headphones. By the way, the Legend headphones are slightly better than the wireless phones that come with the 800. I also believe the 600-800 is deeper on nickels. My opinion, but I had much more time with the Nox. 300 bucks cheaper makes it true bargain.

Edit: in the 3.0 software, Minelab added 4khz
4khz instead of 5khz ? Or added 4khz to the other 5 frequencies ? Either way don’t understand the reasoning.
Why would they change it from 5khz to 4khz or just add an additional frequency at 1khz difference
I can’t imagine make a difference. But to make it identical to the legend frequencies.

From Minelab’s website:
A new Single Frequency of 4 kHz has been added to the existing 5, 10, 15, 20 and 40 kHz options. This new 4 kHz frequency enhances the detection of large deep targets, particularly those found in parts of Asia.
Minelab added the 4khz way before the Legend was revealed.

I don’t know just seems kind of ridiculous even on paper to list running
4,5,10,15,20,40khz
Im not an engineer though
Heck why not make it more sensitive on gold and add 41khz then have
4,5,10,15,20,40,41khz
And if the muti frequencies running smf are supposed to cover I believe 1khz up to 100khz wouldn’t it cover the 4khz anyway or they could have programmed it that way
Trying to wrap my head around that one
No logical explanation by them would make you think its more a marketing thing rather than performance
Yes technically I suppose 4 will go deeper than 5 but again why have both and by how much. Do you really think you are going to now find hoards of deep silver coins now that it has 4khz as opposed to just running 5khx and again then just change it from 5 to 4
If you are out in the field are you going to go back and forth between 5 and 4 ? Hiw do you choose.
