Looking To Trade A Compass Yukon 77b For A Tesoro Umax

Member
I have a Compass Yukon 77B that I purchased from the estate of legendary treasure hunter Reg Sniff that I would like to trade for a Tesoro Umax.

The Compass works great and was featured in an article I wrote for the last issue of Western and Eastern Treasures magazine. It is known for its ability to ignore iron.

I'm also throwing in a detecting bag and a digger.

If interested let me know what you have.

Bill

Nice unit but the battery set up is wrong. It takes double AA’s not nine voltS.
4 AA’s for every 9v there , supposed to be 6 v every connection not 9 volts.
what Tesoro would you expect to get ?

I'm sorry but you are incorrect about the batteries. From the manual:
'the 9V single batteries will
have designated letters taped to the battery leads."

That is what mine has so it is obviously factory. Other models used the packs but not this one.

I am only interested in a uMax.

I’ve had mine for the last 20 years with the manual , don’t see any mention of using 9v batteries anywhere. Don’t think they made any special unit to use 9v’s. people not knowing the machine would put in 9v’s in it. Like to see a picture of your manual saying to use nine volts.

My old tesoro cutlass took 6 AA batteries, but you could take the AA battery holder off and then plug a 9 volt into the lead. I guess it was setup for either or

I think you are right. There was a lot more "variety" back in those days.

Sorry but I'm not going to take pictures of the inside of the detector to prove a point. The battery connections have A, B & C stickers on them. Reg Sniff was a pretty fair detectorist in his day. That's good enough for me. I would say given your concerns this is not a machine for you.

Also, from my response above, copied and pasted from the manual:

Didn’t ask for pictures inside the detector, asked to see a picture of the manual but it looks like you don’t have one. Say no more.

I've seen a number. Of people put 9v batteries in the whites series 2 units and they took 2 packs one with 8aa and the other six

Do you own a Compass 77B.
Hi, yes I do own a compass 77B. Probably have 16 different compass detectors, have about 20 Tesoro detectors, over 145 detectors in the house, filled a few 5 gallon pails of batteries over the years. Can’t bring myself to sell any, given a few away to newbies that wanted to get into the hobby.but that’s about it.

I can remember being told by members of the Compass forums, when I had my 77b, not to use 9v batteries in it. Had to buy the AA battery holders online. Maybe Reg's unit is a custom job?
