I got a chance to use the VX9 with the new update this morning and it worked great. I went to the local fairgrounds that is polluted with all kinds of trash and so far as I could see it performed well in the trash. I purposely headed to a small section of grass between the road and grandstands. I found a couple of Indian heads in this exact spot last year with the Legend. After finding those coins I grid hunted it with the Legend. Those were the only old coins found.
Today, I hunted this area the same direction as I did last year. I found three clad coins that I had missed and was impressed with the VX9 being able to find them. About half way through the grid, I got a signal that I could only hit from one direction. When I tried to pinpoint it, there were too many targets to zero in with pinpoint. The only way I could isolate it was by using the tip of the coil and slowly inching it to the point I either hit it or the signal dropped off. The ground is extremely hard and had a layer of cinders( must have been a parking area years ago) From three inches or so I removed too small pieces of junk. I stuck the pinpointer back in the hole and found a dark coin an inch or so deeper. It was almost black and I saw a the outline of a mercury head. 1920 mercury dime. Very impressive for a big coil!
This is the 5th silver coin to go along with 9 wheat pennies in 15 hours or so on the VX9. I only hunt public spots that myself and many others have hunted for years so this is as good as it gets for me. To be honest, I only hunted with 9.08 a couple of times and I did not realize the problem. I gained a lot of confidence in the VX9 today and hopefully it will only get better with future updates.
