Stopped at a large East Cleveland City park, not a Metroparks park, and decided to do some detecting. I recently bought a Manticore after taking 12 years off from detecting. I only have about 3-4 hrs on the Manticore so far. Walked about 20 feet from my vehicle, and the third signal I dug was a 1844 Large Cent. First old coin with the Manticore, and fifth oldest coin I have ever found. In pretty good shape for an old Copper. I’m working in the Cleveland area for five days, and just randomly picked this park. Only had about an hour to hunt, found three quarters, three dimes, and three deep memorial Lincoln’s. Think I may go back tomorrow!

Awesome find! I still haven't found a largie.
Keep swinging, you will. I have found five of them, three were in pounded out parks The oldest one, 1802, was only about five inches deep.

Worked in hard cleverland mm many years.
I've always wanted to detect the curb strips in old ethnic neighborhoods.
Got a couple hot spots I'd like to try in Cleveland heights near the project's I worked on.
Though these days you need an armed guard to go there.
I live near Mentor.
I'm not moving well these days.
Though if need a digging partner.
Drop me a PM.

I could visit my daughter again who lives out that way too.

Amazing find from a park…. I bet you were surprised when you saw what it was!
I was surprised, it was a solid signal from both directions, and about eight inches deep. It was caked in dirt, and first I thought it was a clad quarter. Was shocked when I rubbed the dirt away.
I was in all terrain general. 5 tone, sensitivity at 24. It rang up at 88, and was solid from all directions. About eight inches deep. I only spit shined it, it came out of the ground in nice shape.

That is pretty deep in my area with my soil.
I have found them pretty deep here, but the signals are kind of faint….. most surprisingly have been less than 4” deep though.

That coin puts us away back there in our time machine, probably lost around the civil war days.

All of my other four Large Cents have come from your neck of the woods, Virginia. I love detecting there!
