Garrett ADS ll

Hi,
I am getting back into THing after a 30 year break to raise a family.
Bought a Garrett ADS ll back in the day and still have it.

My 5 year old granddaughter seems to be fascinated with treasure hunting. I purchased a $25 detector and we found a couple of coins. She is hooked.
As I have been away for such a long time just wondering if it might be worthwhile to get a new $40 battery holder for the ADS ll, as the original one got destroyed by leaky batteries.
The other thought is perhaps a $150 detector would be so much better than the old Garrett its a no brainer. I do live near the beach on Cape Cod so salt water area searching would be nice.
Any thoughts or recommendations greatly appreciated.

I would keep the ADS as a vintage machine and still replace the battery holder. Go and get a new entry level metal detector for your grand-daughter. They are simple to use, turn on and go, lighter, long run time with batteries. The ADS is old technology and too complicated for a five year old. Check out the ACE Series detectors, especially the ACE 120 and the ACE 200. https://garrett.com/store/sport/?srsltid=AfmBOoqPXyEUvgO6gnuwYo8dHDNUJGtqpte0jLg8bTLdIgmCv7c7f_qX

Nokta Detectors has two detectors for children, The Mini Hoard and MIDI Hoard. Both should be able to be had for well under $200. I got one for my granddaughter and seems like it was around $130. They are built well and run at 15kHz.
