XP Interchangeability of D2 and Icon(X)

I'm sure this has come up but could the remote head of the Icon be bought separately and used on the D2 without buying a new detector? Might be priced so high that it might be discouraged. Thoughts?

The way I understand it is when software version 4.2 is released, yes. Icon and Icon X are compatible with all Deus 2 coils only when V4.2 is installed. Same for the new Icon/Icon X 11" coil. It will only be compatible with Deus 2 remotes when V 4.2 is installed. That software hasn't been released yet and no Icon or Icon X standalone remotes are for sale yet either. Could be a while.

The way I understand it with compatable coils that would work But you would have a loss of some functionality. IE things that the D2 can do that the Icon doesn’t.

I also saw that the maximum frequencies are reduced on the icon don’t know how that will impact on your tweaked progs that you use

A guy at regtons says you can’t use d2 progs on the icon and it’s not as deep as d2

If you own a D1 & D2, I cant see how the new Icon's can fill any gap. Its like Minelab, removing options to lower price.
At this point in my life D1,D2 and Nox 900 fill all my needs. Im getting too old to be digging over a foot !!!
Probably meant to attract a different price point crowd.

The only thing Id be looking for in a detector, is one that can tell be the difference between gold & Pull tabs. Right now the D1 is good at telling the difference btwn
a nickel & pull tab. When someone comes up with a way to better way to detect gold, I'll buy it !!!
Sorry, Squirrel, I appreciate all the demo's you've done but to keep switching back and forth between programs, is too much of a pain for me.
I want to see it right in front of my face, DIG ME !!!!!

I doubt that will ever happen in my lifetime until someone figures a different way besides conductivity, to differentiate between different metals.

I recently did an experiment because I saw something online about digging tons of pull tabs before finding gold.
There is bar in my neck of the woods that is set out on the beach in soft sand. I had cherry picked this place a few times just digging the high tones.
I knew the place was loaded with pull tabs but I just wanted try an experiment. I used the D2 but didnt look at the meter. Just digging all the tones.
I must admit after awhile, I was only digging shallow pull tab tones. Results, no gold and only 6 nickels. Now this is easy digging in dry sand.
I just cant imagine doing this in dirt. Of course, during tourist season I will be digging everything. I remember in early years someone said, 'if you're not
digging nickels, you're not digging gold'. Ive tried that with my D1 and have yet to find a gold ring in the nickel range.

Long story short....I dont think I need the Icon. Not going to find me anything I cant find already.
