I’m not sure this is where I should post this but I really need help finding someone that can repair Troy shadow X5M means a lot to me from a friend who passed away. I’m willing to do just brought anything to get this thing fixed and going please and thank you.

The Troy Shadow X5 is a Great detector. Sadly though there are no PARTS available to fix this unit. Fisher posted this years ago. Keith Wills used to do repairs on these units but Fishers
Parts became OBSOLETE!!! GOOD LUCK THOUGH YOU KNOW THE OL SAYING

It’s has circuitboard issues and some soldering difficulties and just need someone to help her

These are the bad thing with it is no book on the circuit's, these use a surface mounted components so we dont know what they are, but if we knew what everything is . I would thing if Troy is still around he might have the info you need.

Now I was a TV repair guy, but can not work on any of the new digital to really repair, but many I worked on was wasn't so much part problem, but bad connection some where on the circuit board that can cause all kinds of problem. . Talking to a fiend that used too have a shop too said many Tvs he fixed was bad connection he repaired. He looked it over well and some he could see while others he just resoldered the connection in that circuit . I had many that was intermission and with it powered up I could use a nylon probe and tap around and see where the problem was, then resolder all the connections. Some I couldn't see and would turn the lights off so it was dark and could see it arcing so I knew where it was and resoldered it and it was good.

Another thing is you see any place on the case that shows it may been dropped and the board my have also have a crack in it that can be repaired. It would be nice to see what happened when he didn't use it anymore and if it does anything at all, if not is the voltage getting to the circuit board meaning the battery connection are good as I believe it uses drop in battery and those connection with the wire that goes to the circuit board.

I sure hope it is something simple you can figure out if it is totally dead.
I have a X5 also with 2 coils that I love and have done well for me, but don't use it much anymore because of health issues. Used to be able to go behind many other high price detector and show what they miss as the go so fast as the response was fast with X5.

I’m so glad you understand how old is metal tactor works or how important it is to meet you because he’s gone three he gave it to me in working in order and I messed up soldering on a speaker connector and then because my soldering iron was too close to where the soldering it burnt out a couple of resistors there at least they popped loose and I can’t get them back down without trying to destroy the board and I want I did that I was like I don’t know what I’m doing at this point I’d rather have someone else try to fix it so luckily none of the marking marked out ones are missing they’re all there the only thing I’m really missing is the or blue square boxes I forget what they’re called

Keith isn't repairing anymore. He has been getting rid of his stuff for a while now.

Just looking at the this one side, shows some of the component's markings are sanded off. Also, some of the trim pots are slightly melted. Not that that is the issue, but it does make it more difficult to trust some components.

So what is the issue with the machine? What does it do or not do?

If Shown switched on the detector for checking the hp/speaker and the soldering of some other parts was faulty, some other electronic parts have been fried, too.

I'm a level III solderer. I can do fine pitch soldering, which isn't required on this machine. I can fix it, if all the parts are there. I do have access to spare resistors and caps as small as 0201. Also, with a little help from members who can take measurements of 'missing' components or certain points, we can bring this machine back from the dead.

I my have done this but how can I check it can I send it to one of you please please

It might be a tough one as we dont know what all happened if it was turned on after the soldering was done. Many times if the solder connected to another circuit it could have shorted out and you probably would ave seen some spark fly or something getting hot. Now if nothing happened when you turn the switch on is good as nothing got burnt up. Maybe your soldering may have raised the traces up so they are not make connections. Now if something did short out then I would be worrying about those IC chips are bad and it looks like the number were ground off as many companies do this to protect their patent so someone dont copy what they spent much time to build and make it too.
If you have all that was burned off as far as resisters it may be reparable and if those blue coils which from the look of it are all the same with the numbers stamped on them and they are probably most all electronics parts store will have them or someone on the internet will have them. If the circuit traces are burns from the high heat there can be jumpers like a piece of wire soldered in to it to make the connection where the solder between the circuit s so they will connect..
Another thing I think some of the first X5 had the speakers quit like mine did, but the headphone worked good, E mailed Troy and he told me to send it in express mail and he would send out his personal X5 so I would have it back in a day or so, told him I had other detector to use so he didnt have to send his to me. Didnt know what he found out, but I had it back 3 days from when I sent it in. and worked great. I just wish he would had better luck and could still making the Shadow as they X 5 was a great detector for actual hunting while the X3 was a good completion detector detector.
Without not knowing what actually happened when you soldered it and how it worked before it can be tough to fix and then again it can be easy also and anyone that wants to try has to let you know it can be shot already and no guarantee they can fix it., its a chance you have to take. I see someone has offered to solder it for you, but if he cant then If you can find someone that has the right tools can do it for you. I might be able to look at it too, but my eyes and my hands like to shake a little as I will be 79 in a couple of months, so if you cant find someone to look at it and before you throw it away I can look at it, but no guarantee it will work.
