    Just my 2Cents…

It’s a good question Ism. I have had similiar scenarios as well. I just chalk it up to ground moisture, chemicals if in a crop field, and just coin material.

    Just my 2Cents…

Really I just gave it a quick wipe on the pant leg seam in the field, let it dry and then just scraped the dirt off with my fingernail at home. It required very little work.

    Just my 2Cents…

From the time I began to get into metal detecting one of the coins I desired to find the most was the 2center. I think they are one of the best looking coins they have ever designed. After four years, I finally got to unearth this beauty. Enjoy the pictures and thanks for looking!

    Second Ever Big Silver

Cleaning out a site that had occupation until the 1970s but was originally settled in the 1850s. Goal is to clean this site of all the modern foil and aluminum and get down to the good old stuff. I had dug well over sixty targets and decided my next would be the last for the night. Came across...

Kettle Points/Tinklers or Old House Flashing ???

I don’t think we will have to alter the history of mankind because of it but they do seem interested in it as, according to them, these pieces shouldn’t be here. It is kind of cool and interesting at minimum.

Kettle Points/Tinklers or Old House Flashing ???

Thanks for the input Short Straw! It very well could be. It definitely looks like lead but is much lighter than it should be for lead. Jury is still out on this one.

Kettle Points/Tinklers or Old House Flashing ???

***Update: Got confirmation from the state archy on these pieces being worked pieces, most likely Tinklers in various stages of manufacture. The site will be recorded and researched further. An 1830s wagon trail runs not far from this site at all so that could definitely be related. According...

Kettle Points/Tinklers or Old House Flashing ???

Here are a couple of links to other finds and some photos. I understand these are from other detectorists however there is a lot of information out there from historian/archeological roots...

Kettle Points/Tinklers or Old House Flashing ???

Thanks for responding CT Todd! I respect your view and appreciate the opportunity to debate these. I agree that they do resemble cut flashing no doubt. I have found plenty of that and occasionally you do find pieces that are of interesting shape. I’ve thrown many in the scrap pile. However...

Kettle Points/Tinklers or Old House Flashing ???

I spoke to and forwarded pictures of these onto a person that could be called an expert in Native American/ancient archeology and he confirmed that these are worked pieces, both points and Tinklers, mostly likely from the Ioway tribes that resided here until the 1840s or so but could date as far...

Kettle Points/Tinklers or Old House Flashing ???

Thank you for your response! I work in the construction field and am apprised of the gutter ferrules. I agree they do have that appearance but these pieces I have found are much too small to be used for anything of that nature.

Kettle Points/Tinklers or Old House Flashing ???

Thank you for your input and response! Have you ever looked very far into the fur trade era or kettle culture stuff with the Native Americans? Very interesting stuff. I’m still on the fence on the brass pieces but they definitely resemble Kaskaskian points, Tinklers, and Kettle points from...

Kettle Points/Tinklers or Old House Flashing ???

Posted in another forum and got crickets for responses. It amazes me how a person can find a wheat penny or a merc in a tot lot and it garners multiple comments and a multitude of inputs but when you post potential relics with actual intentions of learning and getting valuable opinions on them...
