    What Do I Have Here?

Curious as to any ideas or opinions on this piece? Found at an 1850s to 19-teens site. Has that “good, old” patina on it so I know it has some age to it. Completely brass or similar metallurgy. What are some thoughts on this one? Horse tack?

Nice First Hunt At a New Site and an Archaic Period Artifact

Had a good early Saturday morning hunt. Still testing out a few homesite locations from the maps I am building of my area. Site proved to have some older items with some early teens stuff sprinkled over top, all confirming my research. Having worked the site and becoming more familiar with it I...

    Old G.O.P. elephant button

It is unfortunate but at least you had enough left for an identification. Still saved some good history finding what was left. It will continue to crumble most likely if it is pewter. I’d suggest putting a clear coat over it to help slow the decay process.

    Old G.O.P. elephant button

It appears to be old A.F. Probably mid 1850s would be my guess judging by the material composition and the subject matter. The GOP wasn’t formed until 1854 and it appears to be made of a pewter material. Cool find.

    Nice Saturday Morning Hunt

Sequel hunt: Nothing too glamorous this round but did turn up a few older pieces to help my cause on confirming the older site off of my created map. -Did come up with a nice raised H Henry casing. -Found the buttplate to an old musket -The Simmons Hardware iron stove piece has some...

    Nice Saturday Morning Hunt

Thank you for taking the time to ask the questions. I know the Garrett’s are pretty simple machines but they can take a beating and work very well if you get to know tthem and put them over old sites. Laplander will have a Manti in my hands at some point. He shows me how it’s done several...

    Nice Saturday Morning Hunt

The swastika looking piece is probably late 1800s into the turn of the century; however the two I have found have both been alongside civil war buttons, probably just coincidence. Regardless, that symbol was widely known as a symbol of good luck dating back even into ancient times. It has been...
