Odd looking “coin" found in a Vermont field

Many of these Asian coins were used in the past as decorative pieces. They used to make sewing baskets with these that had several on the outside. Many other uses over the years mainly in the early to mid 1900's.

    F75, badass

I still use it as my main detector. It's a great detector especially after learning all the different settings.

    Late Date One-Room Schoolhouse

Went back to the late date one-room schoolhouse yesterday with the F75 and hunted closer to the road. The coins were still somewhat "modern" in this area but I was able to find 5 Indian Heads that are all from the early 1900's. Six of the eleven Wheats are from the 1940's and the other five are...

    Late Date One-Room Schoolhouse

I spend a lot of my hunting time searching farm fields that once had one-room schoolhouses on them. Most of the schools were consolidated in the early 1920's and the schoolhouses were either torn down or in some cases used as storage buildings for hay and corn. These sites are great spots for...

    BPOE Badge

TuesdayI found what I think is an Elks Convention Badge at an 1860-1920's house site in what is now an Indiana bean field. It rang up in the mid 70's on the Fisher F75. The upper loops held another piece that probably showed the year and location. I have not been able to pin down the exact date...

Gold, Big Silvers and 1872 Indian

Nice group of coins. I like the 1950 Uncle Sam play quarter. It's quite a challenge to find all the years on the nickels, dimes and quarters. 1950 is an early one. They made them into the late 60's from what I have been able to find.

    Very odd puffy quarter

It's probably a trick squirt quarter that was sold in novelty stores in the 60's. There should be a small hole near the rim or on Washington's face that squirts water when you squeeze the face. You put them under water and squeezed a couple times to fill with water. The trick was to tell some...

    Beans Are Better Than Corn

Yes, you're right, I have found coins right next to the roadway in the past at the schoolhouse sites, but it gets very trashy next to the roads. Also sometimes these old roads have been shifted slightly from the original road and I'm sure there are old coins buried beneath gravel that has been...

    Beans Are Better Than Corn

I was able to get out to a farm field that I hunted once last fall. The field is the site of a former one-room schoolhouse and is about an hour and a half drive from home. When I hunted it last fall it had been planted in corn. The stubble and chaff was somewhat difficult to hunt then, but I was...
