    Found some wings today

Today I went back to where the city is tearing up an old park for some sidewalks, etc. I found several wheats, a 61 nickel, and these wings. There used to be an Army Air base here during WW II. I wonder if these came from that place. The city had dug down about a foot and I found these...

How would you clean this 1907 V nickel

I haven't been doing much detecting lately, it's been too hot and dry, but we got a lot of rain and it has cooled off a lot. I noticed a place in the older part of town where the city had tore out sidewalks, and had dug up a lot of dirt. I got permission to hunt and found 21 wheat pennies, two...

Need help choosing a new battery pack

I have had a Minelab E-trac for a number of years. I have noticed the battery pack is no longer holding a charge very long. I need a new battery pack, but which one? I have heard good things about the RNB battery pack. they have the ML-3100 and ML-2900. If RNB is the way to go, which RNB...

    What is this?

This was found in a fire pit along with a couple of horseshoes. The place was near an old stage stop. It appears to be made of copper. The two halves seem to fit together and the top used to have a hinge. The back seems to have brackets that would fit on a belt.

    Detecting the Outer Banks, NC

I plan to vacation at the Outer Banks NC in a few weeks. I have written to and been told by the Government authorities in Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head that metal detecting is legal on their beaches. This will be my first beach hunt. Has anyone else detected there? Any...

    Swastika boys shoe medal found.

I found this medal in back of an old house in town. The front has a large swastika along with a smaller horseshoe, wishbone, four leaf clover, and another item I can't identify. The front says, "Good Luck" "Manufactured by the Excelsior Shoe Co. Portsmouth.O" The Back shows a boy on a horse...

    First silver this year

I know this find is not a big deal to most of you, but the town I live in has really been detected hard and a lot of detectors have an E-trac. I got permission to detect an old house that used to be the Red Cross building. I found this standing liberty. It is really worn, and I can't read the...

    Can anyone identify this find?

I found this about 9" deep where a service station had been back in the 1930's and 40's. It measures 1 1/2" across. Across the side it says, "COLGATE & CO. " "NEW YORK, USA". When I opened it, it was full of a bluish white crystal substance.

Three silver from a sidewalk tear out

A local church is tearing out a sidewalk to make more parking. The dirt was dug about a foot below where the sidewalk had been. The first day there was a large mound of dirt, metal rusted pipe, etc. along the middle of the tear out. I did find a 23 Mercury dime. I went back the next day and...

How do you detect around metal poles?

In parks there are benches with metal poles holding them up. The benches would be a great place to detect, but even with sensitivity at a low level I can't get very close to the metal poles. Anyone have any suggestions?

Button experts, take a look at this

I found this button in an old park. It was deep. Sorry the pictures are so small, but the camera would not focus when I tried to take bigger pictures. On the back bottom of the button is printed .RED BANK. then across the top of the button is SIGMUND.DISNER. On the SIGMUND.DISNER, I am not...

    Help with an old button

I was detecting in an old park where I have found some old coins. I got a good deep signal. I dug down and pulled out what seemed to be a flattened bullet. When I got home I realized it was a button. After soaking in olive oil, it has begun to clean up. The back of the button has writing...
